I had an idea that may improve set inventory usefulness for some people. Could
there be an option to show which bags the pieces came from? I know it would be
a lot of work to add bag inventories for 20,000 sets, but this could be useful
to people trying to sort used sets back into the original numbered back system,
or for research. (Of course, the option to view all the pieces without the bags
would still be available). Here is a system I thought up:
If the set has numbered bags:
Bag #1:
parts
pieces
etc.
sub bags (the little bags inside that have smaller parts):
sub bag a:
parts
pieces
etc.
Bag #2
and so on
If the set does not have numbered bags:
Bag A
parts
pieces
etc.
sub bag a:
parts
pieces
etc.
Bag B
and so on
If the box has unbagged pieces:
Box:
parts
pieces
stickers
etc
Bag #1:
etc
I hope my idea is clear, and I quite understand if it would be too difficult
to implement, or if it wouldn't be worth the trouble.
Does anyone have any feedback?

IMO, this would add a whole bunch of unnecessary delay to inventorying sets.
It is already time consuming enough, but then having to go and check your inventory
against each bag over and over. Imagine doing that for a set that has 70 bags.
Also, some of the new paper bags do not come with the little bag inside them.
Whereas the old plastic bag would have a bag inside them(EXAMPLE: 20 plastic
bags vs 34 paper bags of the same set). We would then have to add separate inventories
for Paper/Plastic bags.
To counter your argument, many sellers that sell used sets use the LEGO inventory/BL
inventory for verification. If they were to bag the set via a numbered system,
they generally do by reverse instruction order.

And older sets don't even have numbered bags so that would be an even bigger
nightmare

As another has said, if you want to sell Lego sets and bag the parts by numbers,
use the instructions to bag the parts. The instructions will show that a new
bag is to be opened.
