Is it just me or are fewer and fewer customers leaving feedback? I've had
9 orders in a roll without a single feedback. Orders were shipped quickly.
When I started selling I received feedback all the time, but now, nothing. I'm
not a big store so orders are slow coming and 9 in a roll seems strange.
Seems to be deteriorating dramatically on the buyer side.
Also seeing it a bit on the established seller side (after completed transactions),
which is curious.

I think it has become fairly common. It used to be that when feedback rates were
quite high, people that didn't leave feedback were the ones that didn't
mark orders as complete. That still happens but also more recently I've been
seeing buyers marking their orders complete but not bothering with leaving feedback.
I guess that they are doing their admin to keep their own order lists up to date
about whether the order is complete or not, but don't care enough to leave
feedback. Most of the ones that haven't left feedback for me, also haven't
left feedback for other sellers.

Maybe people are eventually getting tired of evaluating / being evaluated all
the time.
You can’t buy or do anything nowadays without getting several “(please) evaluate
us!” reminders.
It’s paradoxical: we all know reviews and notes are fake on many places, yet,
when we’ve the opportunity to leave genuine feedback, we don’t.

I never send out feedback reminders. If they don't leave it, they don't
leave it. I'm not sure if that is the best way to get feedback or not. Personally,
I hate it if someone asks me to leave feedback for them and would tend not to,
especially if it has only been a few days.

Indeed, if buyers don't leave feedback then I don't think they can really
complain if they get a bad seller that nobody else has left feedback for and
so didn't warn them.
Of course, there is also the problem of buyers only leaving feedback when something
is wrong. I tend to do that on ebay. I rarely leave feedback if I get an item
as expected, and only really leave any feedback (obviously negative) when there
is something to complain about.
When a buyer does nothing after he gets his order, I don't think anything
of it, but when he marks it Complete and leaves no feedback, it makes me wonder
if there was something wrong, and he just doesn't feel like going to the
trouble of letting me know.

That is why I sometimes check to see if they are leaving feedback for others.
If they don't leave feedback for others, I assume they don't care about
feedback. If they do leave feedback for others, but didn't leave feedback
for me, then I would assume it is something about the order.

I wonder what happened in the cases where sellers left him a positive. Whether
they paid or just leave positive feedback in batches no matter if they paid or
not.

Indeed it is. That buyer registered and promptly made a HUGE number of orders,
but only paid for a few. It happened so quickly that people didn't realize
how bad he was until the negative feedback started pouring in.

I'd like to know what the reason was. Maybe he was trying to deplete the
inventory of some item so he could be the only seller left and charge a ridiculous
price? Or maybe it was just a kid who was bored? Why did he pay for any of the
orders? Maybe he was drunk or high and ordered a bunch of stuff, then sobered
up and realized he couldn't pay for all those orders.

Everything is slow/off in August. People are outside not online.

I'd like to blame this on a summer slump but I believe feedback has been
falling off gradually over the past year or so.
Make that 10 years at least (if not 25 ).
There were already discussions about the rate falling and “Ye good olde times
of BL gone” when I joined.
At the time, it was old sellers with 80+% and new sellers with 70% and then it
went down and down….
Buyers leaving feedback has been trending down for quite awhile. Even eBay will
start leaving automatic positive feedback:
Great transactions deserve recognition, and more feedback means more trust from
future buyers, as well as greater visibility into seller excellence - but today,
only about one in three buyers chooses to leave feedback. Beginning in September,
when a seller in the U.S. uses a tracked service, delivers on time, and no issues
are reported, eBay will automatically leave positive feedback for the seller
if the buyer hasn’t already done so.
It's a simple way to ensure sellers' reliability and professionalism
are reflected publicly, even when buyers stay quiet.

I didn't know eBay was doing that. That's a great idea. Bricklink should
do the same. Feedback has become increasingly less common for at least a decade
now. I suspect it's due to people being used to dealing with corporations
like Amazon when they shop online, so they don't see online transactions
as personal anymore.
I've always left feedback for every single transaction. It helps me keep
track of how many transactions I've done. I've received 146 feedbacks
in 192 transactions over the past 14 years, but I probably received 100% feedback
in the first five years.

Ebay can automate it as they force sellers to use specific shipping services
through them (at least here). Automating it in all countries on BL would take
some doing. Even just doing it for USA domestic transactions would take some
doing without integrated shipping and automated tracking numbers.

Same here. In July I had a very slow month of 18 orders with only 5 or 6 leaving
feedback.
I also am a smaller store so any orders are very welcome to help pay for my adopted
rabbit.

Maybe because they’ve made it confusing and more awkward to leave feedback?

Yup some leave it some don't
it should be like Mercari to complete the transaction you have to accept your
order, leave feedback before you can mark it complete
