Ups crushed a box and an expensive set got a slight crease. Buyer throwing a
fit over this and I've told him I'd send him a return label and refund
him in full.
He just wants to keep arguing with me about how I didn't pack the box right,
being all emotional, not getting to the point. We arent gettinf anywhere. Apparently
the creased box is the end of the world, but he also wants to keep it. He's
fishing for a discount but wont say how much, instead rambling about being a
grandfather and how I've failed in life by packing a set with foam
Normally I would but he has severely rubbed me the wrong way, plus his feedback
indicates he does this to other sellers.
Debating blocking him and just waiting for a paypal claim to come. My question
is...I wouldn't have to deal with him directly and he would be forced to
return the item, is this correct?

In theory yes. But whether they return it or something else, or whether they
jump up and down on it before returning it, PayPal are unlikely to care.

Yeah I know thats always a risk with returns. That would be a heck of a way to
blow up his reputation though. Thanks for the answer

No, you don't deal with him directly. You submit "your side of the story"
directly to PayPal. PayPal will require him to return the item and pay return
shipping.
If you haven't already, try to get photos of the damage so you can submit
a UPS claim.

Hi thanks for the info.
He sent me a ton of pics, apparently he felt the box was damaged enough to warant
him taking pics of the opening process. Yet didn't refuse the package when
it arrived.
I told him to file a dispute because we clearly don't seem to be on the same
page. Nothing filed yet. Like I suspected he doesn't really care about the
box, just fishing for a discount.
It was an expensive set, but I sold it "cheap" to make room in my house
for another large boxed collection. If it comes back I'll just resell it
probably at the same price point, or part it out.

If you do sell this set for less than what the original buyer paid, the difference
is great evidence for a UPS claim. Not sure how long you have to file a UPS claim.

Thats a good thought, thanks for that.
Honestly I don't think the damaged box affects the price point, especially
if I put it up on ebay instead of here next round. I sold it too cheap anyway.
So if it comes back I'll sit on it at its real value just for spite lol
