BrickLink, I need some help here. I've been running Old Grey Bricks since
2011. It's a small shop and I run it part time. It's still a significant
financial interest for my family as I do have a small office with a lease and
a considerable investment in product.
Today, I realized I've run low on my order cards which I have printed (like
a business card) and include with every order. It reminds buyers of who I am
and from which shop that nicely-packaged order just arrived from. It's got
my address and email in case something happens to the order in transit. I write
the order number and sign my name on each one.
I usually order 500 at a time and they last me quite a while. My question to
you is this: How will I know that I will still have this business name and if
my logo (and business identity) will mean anything at all 6 months from now?
'Old Grey Bricks' meets all the criteria you've given me for 'nicknames'
but are you going to make sure I still have it? Will it be reserved for me?
There is a real cost for the uncertainty and confusion you are causing with this
account integration. You need to do more for the business owners here.
I'm a small shop about to make a $30 investment in cards for my business
that I don't know if I will be able to use. Can you possibly imagine what
this is like for larger business with locations, employees, and licenses?
Will my repeat buyers still know me when my account here is just the 'jennnifer'
I've managed to reserve, my store name is whatever version of Old Grey Bricks
I manage to acquire after the changeover, and my avatar is some bunny minifig?
Will the logo on my storefront remain?
Please take the time to realize the real life implications of what may be about
to happen to stores on BrickLink. Make a plan. Make it public. Assign a liaison
so we are not left to the mercy of customer service agents on a website that
has nothing to do with our businesses. Be accountable for your actions and their
effects on BrickLink members.
From what I understand, you'll keep the jennnifer username (called 'nickname'
on other LEGO sites), keep whatever store name you want and lose the image in
the ID card. So people should still be able to find you by searching for the
store name. However, why not add the simplified link to the business card ...
as this will take them there direct and they will not need to search. If you
have reserved that nickname with them, you should be fine. I think that is the
most important bit for a business card as it tells the holder how to find you.
I think you will also be able to (sort of) keep your brand image picture but
instead of using it on the ID card you could move it to the store terms or splash
page to keep the brand image connected to your store - if they allow us to keep
hosting images from those pages.
The ID card image becomes a bit meaningless since there are only about 20 different
pictures to choose from, so many people will look the same. That is a bit of
a stupid move.

It's not a business card. It's an order card. They already know where
they found me.
The email is for the customer who maybe isn't savvy of messaging on BrickLink.
Or for the postal or customs employee who opens the package looking for info.
No, I can't use my username printed anywhere because you can't see the
3rd 'n' if you don't know it's there already.
And don't bother to suggest I change my jennnifer. I've spent 50 years
on this earth with the most generic girls name ever and misspelling it the way
I want is my choice and how I identify. It's also linked to about 30 zillion
Catalog credits here on the site that I intend to keep.
No, I don't get to keep 'whatever store name I want' or I wouldn't
be here talking about this. My store name is subject to the nickname rules. The
same ones last month that were accepting names with 'brick' in the title
and rejecting names with 'bricks' in the title. My store name could also
be taken by another member.

LOL! OMG... That's why I can never find you when I'm trying to message
you. I always have to go find a post, go to your profile and message you that
way.

I can't offer any clarifications to your question Jennnifer, but I certainly
hope that the powers that be will take into account the head & heart ache this
merge will cause for you and all the small (all) businesses on Bricklink.
It irritates me to no end that a "BIG" company is going to walk all over
the "little" guys once again and it makes it worse that it is my beloved
Lego of which I have been playing with for 50 years now.
I fervently hope you will get to keep your iconic store name and store logo!

I just tried to reserve "KevwarsBricks" - denied, I thought maybe the
bricks was causing it. NO problem, remove the Bricks. "Kevwars" lets
try again - denied, for illegal and politcal reasons.... Kevwar is a play on
my name, it has nothing to do with either topic, lets see what the human appeal
says...

perhaps the "war" is what triggered it, best of luck with the appeal!
