For over 24 hours, I was not able to get on the forum or click on anything in
the catalog. I kept getting Error 503 messages. Does anybody have any idea why
this was happening or did it happen to anybody else? Had all the cookies cleared.
Tried 4 different web browsers and 3 different computers and nothing was working.
All of a sudden I was just able to finally use Bricklink in full.

I guess the other ones who couldn't post in forum... we didn't hear about
them
Happy you're back anyway!

What does “not using the WiFi” mean? Would you be on a phone and using your
phone data connection?
When i on my wifi i can't open the Catalogus/parts and forum, i get the message
error 503.
When i use Mobile internet i can open the Catalogus and forum.

I’ve had the same problem for three days now, but the difference seems to be
that I’m not using my home wifi anymore - I’m at an office using their guest
wifi and everything works fine.
At home, none of our devices (phones, tablets, computers) will load the catalog
or forum, logged in or not, even with cookies cleared.
I wonder what the reason is, and is it that there aren’t many users affected
- or that there are more users but they can’t get to the forum to post?
If there is a workaround/fix, it would be great if BL could share that via another
method (email or social media) since we can’t get to the forum to read how to
fix the problem with accessing the forum. 🙂

BL has Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and X accounts (links in the footer).
I guess if many people had the problem, a few of them could contact BL there.
What’s funny is that it doesn’t work on home networks but it works on (unsecure)
public WiFi and mobile networks.
Funny in the sense that I’d have thought the contrary.
I know eh? I really don’t understand it at all, and why it’s only some people
and not all. I don’t know much about computers, might it be related to the IP
address if that changes when using someone else’s wifi?
You guys might not have missed me since I’m more of a lurker, but I missed reading
the forum every day!
I did contact BL through the help desk and I checked the social media for updates
from them, but I didn’t think to contact them that way as well. Thank you for
the suggestion, Sylvain.

The forum has been quiet lately… though I don’t think the error has gone for
that long (or I hope it hadn’t)

I’m very suggestive ((Tom Selleck’s) Magnum’s eyebrow move)

I believe this has something to do with using wi-fi and VPN privacy (I don't
even understand what that is). But I turned on my secure VPN privacy on Norton

VPN means Virtual Private Network. It seems they are using the name for a lot
of things these days, because, you know, buzzwords, but the principle should
be the same:
Internet is like the postal service: you send and receive packets.
Basically, what a VPN does is that instead of sending packets directly to BrickLink’s
servers and receiving BL’s response packets directly, you send your packets inside
other packets to a “friend” (Norton for you), and the friend unpacks them and
sends them to BL, then receives the answers from BL and packs them and sends
them back to you.
“Packing” means both putting your packets inside other packets, so the exterior
doesn’t show your info (who, what, where…), but it also means encrypting your
data, so that no one but you and your friend can know what’s in your packets
or even that you’re sending them to BL.
So, what happens here is that something is wrong on the You—ISP—…—BL road, but
the You—ISP—Norton—…—BL road is clear.
And that’s about the same thing with people using their WiFi / mobile: Them—ISP—…—BL
doesn’t work, but Them—MobileISP—…—BL works.

Please note VPN is everything but privacy.
You're just centralizing all your data at the VPN company, which can do whatever
they won't tell you (even if they promise they won't), or be hacked,
or be legally forced to provide, or be sold to another company along with your
data, etc.
In short, you've exactly the same privacy as with your ISP, except you're
paying an extra service.
Could be nice if you wish to watch series in another Country, though
