I have been gradually getting my collection organized in "My Collection"
with their place in there so I can find them again. I haven't started on
minifigs heads yet. Mine are currently in ziplock bags in a large tub and finding
the one I want would be kind of a chore. One-sided heads in particular have
to be turned over individually to identify and they all look the same in the
tub. Has someone solved this issue? I could move them all into a little drawer
organizer for a $30 or whatever investment, but still there would be no displayability
factor in it. Does someone know a neat container where I could put them facing
out and placed in a grid? Or just pitch what you do that works for you.
I bag and label all mine and keep them in larger bags according to catalogue
number categories and colours.

I literally just started this project on Friday. I'm currently doing what
Stuart is doing but I'm finding that the volume of bags inside my containers
is greater than the volume of the parts (mostly everything is in quantities of
20 or less). Then there is the issue of air trapped in the bags and the air
trapped between bags.
I'll experiment by using masking tape to label the slots since it can be
easily moved/removed and if I don't like them, I can just donate them to
my kids' school. My only gripe already is that this specific one doesn't
seem like it will be big enough. Not just it's actual size (something like
15x9x2 when I'd prefer ~24x18x2) but the compartments themselves. Sure they'll
be fine for heads/hand/arms but I'd like to move all my other minifig accessories
to these too, specifically the plethora of swords and spears.

I do use containers like that for some of my collection, but I still use bags,
because it can be difficult to fish them out of those holes. I was hoping to
be able to see the faces at a glance.

That's one of my concerns I need to allay. Currently being in bags, if I
drop the bag (or the bin full of bags) everything stays together in it's
labeled bag and I can quickly clean it up. In these organizers, the label it
attached to the organizer and the pieces can freely fly around the room causing
me to fire up brickognize for a while. We'll see.

If they are used (for sale in bl shop) and my own collection I stack them facing
in the same way in 12s as they fit in my storage drawers. For my collection I
group by type/use, so all fleshie go together, then split into ones with modern
prints (glasses, mics, earpieces, etc) from others that can be used for historic,
then split m/f, male split with/out beards, and so on to help find things fast.

Ok, that looks neat. And this concern may not be as important as I think, but
does leaving them clutched all the time have a long term negative effect or is
it going on and off that wears them out?

I've had some minifigure heads stacked (on top of each other) for probably
20 years.I don't think the clutch is any worse than parts where they are
not stacked.

I would imagine it’s the taking them on and off, I have heads that have been
attached to somethings for near a decade and the clutch power is still good,
while other heads which I remove or rotate a lot have loosed over time.
If your just planning on using them for pictures for the catalog it should be
fine, ether way it beats digging through loose heads
The only other thing I recommend doing is sorting them by year then by theme,
Star Wars, Ninjago etc.

12 drawer paintbrush rack (much more than I will need for heads) with shallow
drawers. I glued small dowels down in the sections. These heads are labeled
MF-1-1 in "My Collection". Drawer 1, Section 1. They won't roll
around. They'll face up. New pieces will stay new.

I use 8x16 and 16x16 plates and create stacks of the same heads - about 4-5 max
per stack so some plates will end up with multiple stacks of the same more common
heads. The plates are grouped by both head variant (blocked open/hollow/solid)
as well as certain types of prints (facial hair, eyewear, male/female, dual-sided...).
Works great for being able to look at everything at once but it could take up
a lot of shelf/counter space depending on how many you have. I don't have
a photo on this device but
