Can anyone advise what people are supposed to do when a message arrives via Bricklink
contact form.
I've received several over the last few weeks asking for photos, etc and
just replied back to the email - i.e. back to Bricklink.
Then tumbleweed.
I have no problem with people making enquiries and then leaving it - but I'm
not sure I'm doing the right thing.
Is this the correct protocol?
Should I respond from my personal email to their email.
Does replying with photo's back to Bricklink contact even work?
Thanks to anyone who can definatively answer.
Hi, it's not very clear but it seems you're answering by email to blservice@bricklink.com,
thinking it will send the message through BL's messaging system (“contact
form”).
It doesn't work like that.
Either you use the BL messaging system (= the BL website) to answer… and then
you can't attach pics, or use emails and the conversation is then outside
of BL.
And if you use emails, you, or rather your mail program or website, need(s) to
answer to the user's email address and not blservice@bricklink.com.
To be clear, emails have two fields: FROM and REPLY-TO.
When you receive an email from BL's messaging system, the email is ‘from’
blservice@bricklink.com, but the ‘reply-to’ is correctly set to the user's
email address.
If you click “reply”, it's the ‘reply-to’ address that should be used (as
per the standard), but some stupid actors insist on using the ‘from’ address
(or confuse things with different buttons or options to use either one or the
other).
AFAIK, bservice is a one-way address and emails sent there are just deleted and
there's not even an error message in answer. IOW, it's a black hole.
So your answers are just lost.
Now, if you're using the correct email address and people just don't
follow up, then it's simply because buyers are rude….

To have an official BL paper trail, which is best in case of a dispute, I would
email them back on their non-BL email stating “please check your BL messages
for an update” - then you can use an app like IMGUR to include photos on BL messaging.
It’s just one more aspect of Bricklink that is Light Years Behind. That being
said, some folks just don’t reply to emails or messages.
