I even don't where to start. Having bought Lego on Ebay (of multiple countries)
for so many years, I thought I have seen it all, have dealt with all kinds of
difficulties sellers create, the way they handle,...

But once every few month, a new seller manages to give me a headache in a way
I had not faced.

Is it just me, or you have similar experiences?

P.S. Of course, many sellers are helpful and even when they are newbie, they
make an effort to do things right, communicate well,... which help me to forgive
their mistakes if any.

Did you buy from them? If so and something is wrong, then contact the seller
and tell them what you want to happen to resolve it. And if that doesn't
work, contact ebay.

If you didn't buy from them, just avoid them. Reporting things like infringing
items doesn't work at ebay. Others need to be vigilant if they don't
want to fall for a scam or similar, there is nothing you can do about it.

Weirdly enough it’s rather rare for me to have problems on eBay but that may
just be due to the categories of items I buy, but I can imagine if your buying
sets or such the problems could be higher

I have never had a issue as I rarely buy from that site
When I do I just buy bulk as buying sealed sets is kinda sketchy.

Bought a millennium falcon set once, the guy tried to scam me and sent me a broken
dvd. Paypal was on the fence until i showed them the actual set weight and the
postage label weight. Got refunded, no problem.

Got a large expensive set listed as NEW on eBay last month because it was a few
bucks cheaper. Received it only to find that the tape seals on one end had not
adhered to anything in a long time. Seller immediately admitted that the 'tape
is loose' (though that had not been disclosed.) Pick that box up by the wrong
end and it would all have spilled out. They stubbornly insisted (all the way
up to eBay refunding me after the return) that 'tape is loose' is not
the same thing as 'box is open'.

If it was all there and bags sealed inside, even if the tape tab had finally
come undone in shipping, it was still NEW. If you wanted a sealed set to keep
sealed for a collection or to sell on, fair enough to return it. But if you wanted
a set to build, keep it. I guess it depends how much the few bucks were compared
to the purchase price elsewhere.

P.S. Of course, many sellers are helpful and even when they are newbie, they

My issue isn't about scams or bad description of items. Before bidding or
buying, I asked questions, extra photos,... to make sure.
Sometimes I see a vintage set or even a part/catalog that is very rare and
I only see it once in a while (like once every two years) so I am always determined
to get it. Return, cancellation,... aren't an option.

Here is one transaction from a newbie seller in Canada who didn't have any
previous feedback.
Part one: I won the auction at 11pm
Part two: He sent a message at 11:02 pm:

Hey man I usually get a payment in 3-4 hours, or else I'll cancel the
order.

Yeah, absolutely. I am here to but toys and for that you can harass me. Why not?

Part 3-100: I make it short and just copy-paste the negative feedback I left
(but I got the item and despite bad packing, it arrived safe because the seller
lives in my city):

Being on Ebay since 2007, this is a new type of harass: Two minutes after
the end of auction, threatened me with: "Hey, I usually get a payment in
3-4 hours, or else I'll cancel the order." Then I asked him his address
& whether I can do local pickup. His answer:"I can do that, but you're
gonna pay the full amount & include the ship"!! I paid for shipping, but
he insisted twice to deliver at my address!! His packing was very poor too (just
a cereal box! and a shopping bag) but he made an effort.

No, not at all wild. Having had my more recent experience, I would kiss the ...

Especially if it is a new seller, they might have heard about auction wreckers
that just bid to ruin an auction and wanted to make sure that you were going
to pay. It is not a good way to do it, but still, they are new.

They might also be wary of people buying to get the address to know where they
live, so again understandable that they might want to deliver rather than have
collection. If I was dropping something off, I don't think I'd package
it properly. It is not going through the post, so doesn't need as much protection.

Oh wow, now it all makes perfect sense! Charging me for shipping even when I
offered to do local pickup? Of course! That wasn’t about pocketing the extra
cash—it was just his way of being a kind and considerate gentleman. And when
I actually paid for shipping, but he insisted on personally delivering it to
my doorstep? That wasn’t sketchy at all—just another example of his unmatched
generosity and professionalism.

And let’s talk about that packaging—ah, the true mark of a selfless individual!
Who needs proper protection for a fragile 1979 Lego set when you can send it
off in a cereal box wrapped in a shopping bag? Clearly, he was just assuming
I’d accept his noble offer of hand-delivery and, in his deep sorrow over my refusal,
had no time to find proper packaging. The fact that he waited six whole days
before finally shipping it? Obviously, he was too busy doing charity work, feeding
the homeless, and rescuing kittens from trees.

Yes, indeed, this seller is a true gentleman of the highest order. I can only
aspire to one day reach his level of professionalism and generosity. A real role
model!
