Any other sellers (who don’t do any business with the EU) seriously considering
not checking the box to comply with the EU Digital Services Act and dealing with
the consequences? To be clear, that would mean not selling on BL and moving to
another platform. Or am I being alarmist?

It would seem so. So my guess is they will say something like "I'm going
to eBay" etc for example.
but eBay sellers are likely going to be under the same law. However, my guess
is eBay will just slip an update into their Terms of Service and people will
have no issues agreeing to the new TOS without even reading them.

Since I only sell in my Ebay store to the US and Canada I haven't run across
any change in TOS from Ebay that states we have to comply with the EU DSA. It's
only if we sell to the EU. We in the US are subject to the INFORM Consumers Act
but that really only comes into effect if you're a high volume seller. There
are several forum threads out there that explain why BL is doing it across the
board.
As far as what I can tell the simple way of saying it is, You HAVE to check the
box, but the box you are checking has nothing to do with your freedoms (for now)
and only will apply if you ever sell to the EU. I think

If I didn't misunderstand matters, the box to check just says that you agree
not to sell illegal items over this platform. In what way could that possibly
infringe anyone's freedom? Even if that includes illegal in the sense of
copyright infringement by fake Lego, you already agreed to that by opening a
shop here.
I've always thought it rather ridiculous that you have to promise in writing
not to commit acts of genocide if you want to enter the US, and this box is probably
not any more of a deterrent to hardened Lego criminals, but as far as hoops to
jump through go, this one seems quite easy to me.
Just my 2c
