I've noticed a whole bunch of stores here do invoice only, and one thing
that is annoying about invoices for shipping is that you never are exactly sure
how much shipping will cost.
To help out people, why not add a parameter on the cart page telling the buyer
the combined weight of the items being shipped, so they have a good idea of the
shipping cost (and to ensure less knowledgeable people don't get scammed
by overpriced shipping)?
(Note, I may just be an idiot and this function already exists and I just haven't
found it yet)

Hi,
Some sellers hide the weigh in the cart. I don't. So if you want to place
an order on my store, you can see the weigh of your order. And on my Store terms
you can see every shipping prices. And if you complete the order, you have the
final price before placing it.

You can select to see the weight. Unfortunately, some stores can opt not to show
you the weight. I think the idea was that buyers would think they only had to
pay postage for the weight of the items and not any of the packaging and get
upset with their quotes. It's antiquated and should no longer be allowed
in my opinion.

Weeeeell... It's not that cut and dry. To your point though; yes, everybody
wins when you have full transparency so more stores should just click the show
item weight button.
However dimensions, density and carton weight come in to play along with how
anal retentive the seller is about packaging. Plus some stores might use retail
versus commercial shipping which can have colossal price differences.
They weigh in at a whopping 0.06oz but they're also 13+ inches long and they
have "memory". So I store them flat/straight and I ship them that way
too, which means even though they could easily fit in a bubble mailer if they
were curved in to a U for $4.00, I end up putting them in whatever other option
I have (for the size of the order) that has a 14+ inch diagonal for ~$5.80 minimum.
When it comes to manual invoicing, I send the buyer a screen shot of pirateship
with their address and the package specs, the price sheet, and the option/carrier
I'm selecting that I think is most appropriate. You would be completely
in your rights to ask the seller to send that to you if you balked at the price,
but dollars to doughnuts says that is going to rub them the wrong way.
