Morning, very much a newbie and likely a newbie question but when you place an
order where you know it’s not going to be complete and will need to source additional
pieces, is there a quick way of identifying which unique pieces are missing and
need to be sourced?
Currently finding I only find out mid-build and end up having to order them on
the go but would be helpful to try and order the rest in one go. Just wondered
if there’s an easy way and not going through the wanted list piece by piece.

Thanks!

Click on the scroll icon on the orders placed page.
Select all bought items and move them to a new 'Bought' Wantlist.
Then on the Wanted tab use the Buy page, click on Wanted items instead of by
Wantlist, select all items and do a Search for the store with the most items.

Thank you so much for dropping a reply to this one
Apologies, I’m struggling at the first bit unfortunately. I can’t seem to see
a scroll icon?! I don’t suppose you could let me know where I’d find this?

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

To see the icon, you need to tick the second checkbox (“Items in Order on My
Wanted List Icon”) here: https://www.bricklink.com/orderSettingsCols.asp?v=p

It’s a shortcut to search your order in your WLs.

Here’s my usual copy-pasta to answer a similar question, “How to remove bought
items from a wanted list?”:

There is the “Apply Order” feature (but there’s caveats).

It’s a button on the top row when you visit a Wanted List (WL).
Click on it, it’ll show a dialog to choose an order.
The “application” will change the “Have” fields.
The “Want” fields will stay unchanged.
The progression percentage will change.

BUT
1. You have to be careful because you can apply the same order multiple times,
even on the same list.  It doesn’t remember what it did.  So if you have several
WLs, and they share some parts, it’ll let you think you bought everything when
you might not.
(E.g. you have 10x Red 2x4 bricks in WL1 and WL2, so a total of 20x, you buy
15x, you apply the order to the two lists, and the two lists have a “Have” of
10x.  Not good.)

So it works well when you have only one WL.

2. The “Want” fields are unchanged.  AFAIR, the “Have” field is not used consistently
everywhere: sometimes it’s the “Want minus Have” quantity that’s used (good),
sometimes it’s “Want” and “Have” is disregarded (bad).  It’s generally an option/filter.

And there’s also problems with lots in the colour N/A (means “any” in a WL).
The ordered lots have a real colour, not N/A, so they don’t match the N/A lots
in the WL.

So, I do it with searches, lot per lot, and “order-lists”:
— make a WL from your order (you can do that from the cart, just after checkout,
or from the order details page),
— search your order in all your WLs (you can do that in the Search page for WLs:
menu Want | Search),
— all your WLs will be searched/shown, including the “order-list,”
— you can directly edit your WLs from the search results.

For instance, if you want item X in WL1 and WL2 and if you bought that item X,
the search will show lines for item X: one for WL1, one for WL2, and one for
the “order-list.”  So you’ll easily see how many you wanted and how many you
bought.

Note though that the N/A colour is still a problem here (you ordered an item
with a colour which is generally not N/A, so it doesn’t match the colour in the
WL).

Also, it’s not because an item has been ordered that you have it; wait for it
to arrive before deleting it from your WL.

TL;DR: You can also use BrickStore to manage your lists and orders.

So, I do it with searches, lot per lot, and “order-lists”:

But how does this help in finding the missing parts you haven't bought?
You are creating a WL for the parts you've already bought.

So what I would like to have is the delta/difference from that bought list to
my wanted list. Because that delta is the missing parts I still have to buy.
Or do I understand you wrong?

When you have your order as a WL, and when you search your order in all your
WLs, the items are in order, with all the WLs, so you get something like that:
  — WL 1: part P, colour C, qty Q
  — WL 2: part P, colour C, qty R
  — WL “bought”: part P, colour C, qty S
for each part+colour combination.
And you can then easily edit WL 1 & 2 directly in the search results, without
juggling with multiple tabs or windows.
But it’s still manual.

Or, you can use better tools, like BrickStore….

I think I know what you mean. You delete the parts you have in the 'bought
wanted list' from the original wanted list? I guess this is a possibility
for small WLs, but I have a WL with 20'000 parts ^^
I will try the BrickStore Application and see if that helps.
But still surprised that BrickLink is not offering such a crucial feature in
an easy way.

Yes, it’s a pain with big lists.

I will try the BrickStore Application and see if that helps.

It can download (and import) WLs and Orders from you BL account.  Then you can
‘substract’ one from the other.

But still surprised that BrickLink is not offering such a crucial feature in
an easy way.

The surprise disappears after a while….

I managed to import the WL in BrickStore and wanted to subtract an order. The
WL has 20'732 parts (1172 lots) at the beginning.

After subtracting an order from it has 20'004 parts but 1216 lots. I see
that the subtraction is just added at the end of the WL with minus parts. That
was not what I was expecting. Now I have duplicates in that list and also parts
that are not part of the WL.

Open the WL file.
Open (download) the order.

Use FROM the FL file / tab the subtract button, and subtract the order.

It should subtract what you ordered.

Some negatives at the end could happen if you've in this order other parts
than the one of this wanted-list, something you bought in extra.

Take time to try and understand BrickStore; it DOES work, but it takes a bit
of time.

It adds everything at the end of the list in my opinion. I have 1127 lots in
the WL, after subtracting it adds all of the order after the index 1172, so for
me that shows everything is added at the end of my WL. And not only the extra
parts, also parts that are already in my WL.

Example:
WL:
item-id 38320 quantity 1

order:
item-id 38320 quantity 10

result after subtracting:
item-id 38320 quantity 1
item-id 38320 quantity -10

What I was expecting:
item-id 38320 quantity -9

I can't find a method to find duplicates and marking both items and consolidate
does nothing. I don't know how to solve this problem.

I think I found the problem:

IIRC, the items in your WL have the Condition Any (“State” for BS).  In your
order(s), they’ll be New or Used (never Any).
So they don’t match.

Not sure how that works in BrickStore: It doesn’t seem to have an Any value,
and I can’t find where you define how it should treat Any in WLs 🤔

Yes it must be a problem of different Condition.
OP, select all, right click on the condition and change them in your WL file.

Any should be imported as Used I guess, but never tried though.

In my WL the condition is not set, so any I guess. And when importing it into
BrickStore it sets 'used'.

The order I was subtracting also had 'used'

So that shouldn't be the problem because both has 'used'?

I'm getting frustrated. Such a crucial feature is not implemented in a user
friendly way. Or not implemented at all :/

No it shouldn't if you're SURE both list show "Used" for all
lots (or at least the same condition for the same lots).

Erm, software development is difficult.
What one think to be simple could be very difficult for another.

It IS implemented, and works 100% well, I use it every day up to hundreds of
lots.

For example, the problem could be you start the difference from the wrong file.

You have to be in the WL file THEN click the difference button.
If you're in the other file it won't work the way you're expected.

Send me a PM if this doesn't work?
