Why do the milk jugs from the US have these holes in the side?😂
PS. Milk jugs aren’t really a thing here, we bag our milk

It allows the container to flex so that it doesn't explode if dropped on
the ground. Also it allows any gas build up to occur and the dimple will take
that on board. On older milk containers sometimes the dimple is protruded due
to the non-harmful gas build up.

It is like an air-pocket to protect the carton.

If that makes sense.....

Or like a pressure valve, as they don't want milk cartons exploding
all the time.

The problem is, in Canada none of our jugs have them, and they never explode
and it’s colder here

The explanation offered when applied to circumstances in Canada, is what's
meant as "the problem" seems to me. "So then why the dimpled style
container for the Canadian market, if unnecessary" Is what by extension,
the OP might be dangling.

A local dariy in PA, used to bag the milk. We were disappointed that they stopped
because of lack of parts for the equipment.

I’ve heard that they plan to slowly phase milk bags out in Canada over the next
5-10 years hopefully the plan fails

I have been living in Canada for more than 18 years, and I have never seen milk
sold in a bag (and yes, I do all the shopping for our household). Is this some
regional quirk? Looks hillbilly - and I thought I lived in red neck county...

It’s at every grocery store I’ve been to in my entire life in Canada and I live
in Brampton (one of canadas largest cities). I don’t think I’ve ever seen milk
in a jug in person it’s either in a bag or if you want to pay a bunch more it’s
in a carton.

Seems just to be a east/west marketing thing, guys. Maybe with some differences
in dairy regulations between the two provinces as well. Not a deep mystery

What is a mystery to me, is your expressed concern over this, Jason

Why be bothered by the type of container your milk comes in? That's what
I'm failing to understand All cow milk originates from glands held in sacks
or bags, called udders. Could that be it? I'd be more concerned over the
quality of the milk and it's processing.

The thing is for most of us in Canada (where we have bagged milk) it’s a classic
thing. We grew up always having to put a new milk bag into the container then
grabbing the cool blade the container comes with to try to cut the perfect size
hole at the end to open it. It’s always good fun and it’s fun since not many
(if any) other counties sell milk like that it’s a cool Canadian thing that is
a fun surprise when people visit Canada

So great, many good times around cutting the hole

We had some people from Alberta visit once. So the one guy was looking for milk
in the fridge and he couldn’t find it so he asked if the others had bought any,
they said yes. So he was getting all upset and bent out of shape because he couldn’t
find it and the others where still insisting they had bought milk Then
they said(after about 15mins of looking) “oh the milk is in bags”

I have been living in Canada for more than 18 years, and I have never seen milk

regional quirk? Looks hillbilly - and I thought I lived in red neck county...

Niek.

"I’ve heard that they plan to slowly phase milk bags out in Canada over
the next 5-10 years hopefully the plan fails"

So he was getting all upset and bent out of shape because he couldn’t
find it and the others where still insisting they had bought milk Then
they said(after about 15mins of looking) “oh the milk is in bags”

must be since they have this in Alberta

This at least is something I can understand. It is "different from the rest"
- converging to the masses takes away being unique. It is like license plates
on cars. In Alberta you are only required to have a license plate at the back
of your car. Government has proposed to change this to conform to almost all
the rest of the world, but they quickly backed out after massive outcry.

Yeah, I already understood from your response, that it's something you "can
understand"

Kudos in prioritizing what really matters

In Illinois, you are required to have license plates on both the left and right
sides of your car.

It’s at every grocery store I’ve been to in my entire life in Canada and I live
in Brampton (one of canadas largest cities). I don’t think I’ve ever seen milk
in a jug in person it’s either in a bag or if you want to pay a bunch more it’s
in a carton.

It’s at every grocery store I’ve been to in my entire life in Canada and I live
in Brampton (one of canadas largest cities). I don’t think I’ve ever seen milk
in a jug in person it’s either in a bag or if you want to pay a bunch more it’s
in a carton.

In case anyone was wondering here’s chocolate milk in a bag

Why do the milk jugs from the US have these holes in the side?😂
PS. Milk jugs aren’t really a thing here, we bag our milk

I have been living in Canada for more than 18 years, and I have never seen milk
sold in a bag (and yes, I do all the shopping for our household). Is this some
regional quirk? Looks hillbilly - and I thought I lived in red neck county...

Niek.

In Ontario, do they have to make both French and English bags of milk?

Nope, if there are words on a bag/box, than the other side is the same just
in french.

It is a fundamental principle of democratic government, enshrined in the Constitution.

Article VIII, Section 2:

All fresh Dairy Products shall be packaged in Paper or Plastic Cartons. On
the side of each Plastic Carton shall be imprinted a small round Dimple allowing
for an increase in the Volume of the Carton in the event of a sudden Force or
excessive Pressure from within.
