Recently I sold a couple hundred dollar set to a buyer in the US (I'm located
in Canada).
The package ended up at a UPS pickup point 6 minutes away from from the buyer.
I messaged the buyer multiple times with the tracking number / pickup location
/ etc etc. No response from the buyer. It's now been sitting there long
enough that it's at the 'return to sender' point. I've messaged
the buyer about refunding and restocking fees, but still no reply.
I've never had this happen before, so I guess all I can do at this point
is sit and wait for UPS to ship it back to me ?

And wait for the PayPal claim he is processing. I suspect you will be out shipping
and other fees.

If the UPS pickup point is 6 minutes away from from the buyer, why doesn't
UPS just deliver it to him? (I've never shipped an order by UPS, so there
may be a completely logical reason why; I just don't know it.)

David
Because some addresses have a problem with porch theft, or may be behind a gate.
Exactly. UPS usually drops it off at the customer's location so there must
have been a reason why it's at the pickup point instead.
As long as the delivery shows it arrived where the buyer wanted it shipped to
, you are off the hook so to speak for non delivery of the package. If UPS returns
it to you and you charge a restocking fee , I would deduct that from any refund
for the parts ( not shipping) and block the buyer.
