Maybe the red ones were for Canada and the blue ones were USA ?? For all I know,
this one might have been (silently) molded by Samsonite for LEGO. It’s not clear
who molded it.

Samsonite was the company that manufactured Lego in Canada for a time. There
are several variations in red, yellow, blue and and I think grey. They didn't
necessarily come with a specific set. Most were sold as "special gift"
with purchase but different sets may have had the same case. Some also had trays
in them. Identify by colour of clip latches, and something about the "rib"
pattern. I couldn't find enough specifics on Bricklink, needed to look elsewhere.
I have my red one that came with a universal construction set. My cousin had
a blue one. They were bought at the same store on the same day.
