just got this guy [M=njo784a] in a used lot a few weeks ago and am finally getting
to it and already both sides of the torso are cracked...this figure was released
last year so now I'm wondering whats the newest figure you've gotten
from a used lot that was cracked already

This cracking issue is starting to bother me. I've been contemplating selling
all of my personal minifigs, if they are all going to end up like this. Especially,
while they still have value.
I never noticed this problem with older minifigs (pre 2000's).

1. The new plastic is apparently more "environmentally friendly" (as
if any corporation actually cares about that)
First, corporations actually do care about their image and even if greenwashing
is a thing, it’s called greenwashing because people care and check.
Then, as for “new plastic,” I see four things you may be referring to:
0. The change from pre-coloured ABS pellets to colouring them onsite/themselves…
which, IINM, coincides with the Great Colour Shift of 2003 or not much after
anyway.
1. LEGO’s big announcement of a few years ago (2018) about “green plastic” for
green parts. That’s PE (used in soft/supple parts, like trees and leaves), not
ABS, so not for minifigures, except some hair parts.
2. LEGO’s announcement (2021) about their working on recycled plastic (PET).
That’s not in production yet. Last they talked about it, they were still looking
into how to colour it.
3. The “new” M-ABS or “transparent ABS” they use for transparent parts. Hmm,
is my using the word “transparent” twice big enough a clue?
Hmm, there’s also the brittle colours. I don’t know for the Blue, but Dark Red,
Reddish Brown & Dark Brown were solved in 2018 and the problems dated from around
2008.

And this is exactly when the quality went down the drain!
Poor colour match, warped parts, brittle stuff and now cracking minifigs
Parts prior to that really only had one problem .. yellowing (I'm not taking
about pre-ABS stuff though)

Maybe, but you can barely call that “new” and it certainly wasn’t (even presented
as) a move to be eco-friendly.

No not new, old hat actually
So two decades of declining quality!
I seem to remember that move was done so TLG wouldn't be dependant on just
one supplier (BASF) but could source pellets and colour from around the world

And that only after one year! When I imagine what Mr. Wu Sensei has gone through
in life... my eyes are full of tear

There also seems to be a dent/ding on the bottom left of the torso. I find it
amazing how some kids play with their LEGO. I saw a kid a couple of weekends
ago in a viewing area of a swimming pool, obviously bored while waiting for his
brother / sister, that was chucking his figures against a wall, driving over
them with a matchbox car and then dropping them off a balcony onto a hard floor
below. Some kids treat them as if they were just toys!

My youngest has plenty of minifigs but seems to prefer playing hard with 2x4
bricks. He has a container of them that all have rounded corners now
