Upon closer inspection and comparison, the string actually seems thinner and
more transparent. So I guess this part was stretched, most likely by heating.
Case closed.

I remember doing just that to some of these in the late 1970s over a spirit burner
(before my dad got a heat gun!) You could also shorten or repair them by heating
the tether then overlapping it with itself and rolling it to create a lump in
the middle or melting the ends of the broken parts and overlapping them. They
would also blacken and burn though if not careful.
650 Hinge Coupling Nylon - Two Connected 2 x 2 Plates Parts: Hinge
. One is 7L, the other is 10L. Does anyone
know anything about this? BL has only one type in the catalog.

Sure looks like someone chewed on the longer one. I bet on a scale they both
have the same weight.
Actually, they don't. I have weighed two of the small ones, and they weigh
approx. 0,90 grams. The lengthy one weighs ~0,04 grams more.

Could it be two broken ones "welded" together somehow? It's certainly
possible that it's an anomoly from the Lego factory), but a new version/variant?
Could be a part used by Lego in their parks etc and not necessarily from a set.
Dunno. Nice find whatever the case.
