This week I have bought some special star wars figures for my personal collection.
I paid a lot for it because quality is the most important for me, so I asked
every seller if all the figures were free from cracks (they al checked the figures
and said: Yes).
However I do find some small stressmarks/scratches/cracks under the arms of 2
figures (please check the pictures).
Can anyone please tell me if this are cracks or not, I really have no clue.
If you need more pictures, for example in dark with a flashligt, let me know.
Thanks in advance
I don't see a crack in the dark blue torso. The brown one, maybe - it's
possible it's a seam. Does it appear to widen if you wiggle the arm in the
socket?

Thanks a lot for your reply, under the reaction of yorbrick I have posted some
more pictures.

Molding seems are often seen under the arm holes in torsos. If they go all the
way to the bottom then you can gently open the torso from underneath and see
if the line opens. If they are just near the arm hole but don't run all the
way to the bottom, it is harder to check. You'd need to pull the arms off
and try to pull apart the torso from the hole. But of course you could damage
the torso if doing that.
I imagine the sellers checked if the arms were wobbly and if there appeared to
be a full length crack in the torso. If not, then there are probably not cracks.

It is very hard to tell, if I push the torso apart or move the arms the line
is not getting thicker, however it do really looks like a crack. The line under
and above does not connect.
I really don't have a clue.

Hard to tell. Does it get wider if you hammer it open with a chisel?

I am afraid to go in it with a chisel, when I carefull pull the torso aside nothing
happens.

Nope. Not cracks. They are weld lines from the injection molding process.

Are these weaknesses the reasons why some older torsos may develop cracks over
time?
If excess stress is looking to be relieved in a part, it will always find the
weakest point, and the weld lines would most likely be where the part is the
weakest. This happens with bricks and tiles also.
A note to every disassembler - place the arm in the downward position, place
a human tool inbetween the torso and arm, and then just work it, slowly, until
it becomes free.
Do not lift the arm and tear it out, because that is lazy.
