I have a buyer who wants me to refund the sale because it is not of the perfect
quality they expected (listed as second lowest price and labelled used). They
insisted I send it from Canada to the States Letter mail ($4). It did arrive
but to return it will need to go as a package ($14). The Minifig was sold for
$20.
Do I refund the Mini and initial shipping? Do I refund return shipping as well?
Or do I refund $20 and let them keep the Minifig?
Frustrated again,
Sandra

You should refund the buyer for the minifigure, initial shipping, and return
shipping, and send them a bottle of maple syrup with an apology for not meeting
their expectations.

If a buyer is insisting to have it shipped in a method that it isn’t allowed
to be shipping by (good via letter mail outside of Canada) in the future it might
be best to walk away from it

Might be best to just pay return shipping as either way you loose money but at
least this way you get the figure back

Used dosnt mean damaged. If used parts are damaged they should still be fully
described

I reckon you should refund the $20 and let them keep the minifig. Did you ask
the buyer to send you an image of the item as received? If they're trying
to claim that damage was incurred whilst traveling through the postal system,
point out to them that it's their fault for not picking a shipping method
that would allow for sufficient padding to protect the minifigure.
For future orders, I strongly recommend that you make a policy change that you,
the seller, will be the sole judge of how an item is shipped. If the buyer doesn't
like that, and it's properly stated in your store terms, they have to accept
them, or request to cancel the order.

Is the minifig damaged?
If so, did the buyer know that?

A minifigure or other lego parts cannot be shipped to the United States as letter
mail. International shipping requires a customs form.
Since no one has said it. Tell the customer they are being difficult and give
them nothing. Take the hit on the negative feedback with an explanation. Since
you are thinking of leaving due to this bullying standing up to it is an option.

I just placed a nice order to cheer you up.
Wait...if I say I don't like like it, can I get a refund and keep it?

I know to us, price says something, but to the customer, they just think they
snagged a good deal.
I have a comment for virtually all my used parts, I don't ever get quality
complaints.
So if this is a repeat issue for you, I don't think you can blame the fact
that its used, either you are listing items that aren't IMO bricklink worthy,
or you aren't accurately describing them.
I had listed the minifig with the comment "playwear" as I list any minifig
I sell that isn't in great condition. Buyer sent pictures of scuffing under
arm. The Print and structure were great. I don't have the time or patience
to write up comments on every piece. Last time the buyer sent pictures of the
minifigs in a set he had ordered in low light. Buyer was saying that the helmet
was the wrong colour (pearl gold) and that the prints were washed out. As there
was still gold on the prints I didn't agree. That buyer registered a NON
SHIPPING SELLER which is incorrect but still on my account.
I read about Condition Codes but don't see them being used often and I don't
know where to find them when I am listing pieces. Are these codes really useful
or is it one more thing that new customers (and some old) just skim over when
they are ordering parts?

Hi, the issue is that condition "playwear" means quite a bit of difference
to many buyers. Some would think it's just surface scratches, whereas others
might think it's more wear or not . It is really up to the seller to describe
parts which might have a bit more than just "playwear" - as in this case
- scuffing under the arm. They expected a minifigure which was in reasonable
used condition and perhaps had received other parts from other sellers which
were of higher quality for "used". As others have pointed out, it would
make a bigger difference if you took the time to describe other flaws on parts
which have them. I offer parts which are heavily used and have scuffs, dings,
wrinkles, cracks, etc but I describe them and so I expect the buyer to read the
comments before buying. I have never received one complaint on condition.
This is just my opinion.

"Playwear" may suffice for bricks and plates but it is too vague for
minifigs and other printed pieces. I made a small notepad file with generic comments
that I use to cut and paste from. It really takes no time at all to cut and paste
it in and after awhile you realize the comments repeat. if you sell parts with
nicks, bite marks, fading, cracks, etc you have to note these or be ready to
issue refunds. You can also add "Priced accordingly" after noting the
defects.

This is my opinion as well.
I do however use the word playwear but usually its "light playwear"
(as in played with, but still good/nice) or "average playwear" usually
with a note as to dings or such, that said I don't list much at all beyond
"light" playwear. Something that is "well loved" does not usually
make it into my store and I put those parts into bulk ebay listings.
For figs I describe the flaws specifically, usually.
Honestly I discard most used parts that look "used". Most of my used
parts look basically new, and I have been told so probably 100's of times
in my feedback.
I've noticed from being a buyer that many sellers will list any used part
they can get their hands on. I've received parts I would never list myself.

Honestly, for figs and sets you def should, and if its not worth the effort,
its probably not worth listing it. Just my opinion.
