Part No: 15457 Name: Technic, Gear Worm Screw with 2 Bushes
*
15457 Technic, Gear Worm Screw with 2 Bushes
Parts: Technic, Gear {Dark Bluish Gray}
was produced in 2014 and used in some sets. Shortly after that,
it was discontinued and the sets that had this was changed to use

Part No: 4716 Name: Technic, Gear Worm Screw, Long
*
4716 Technic, Gear Worm Screw, Long
Parts: Technic, Gear
instead.

I've been wondering, was there a design flaw or something that made LEGO
abandon the smaller worm gear in favor of older version that used more plastic?
Since making new mold to produce parts can be costly, some thousand dollars
or so.

I vaguely recall a durability issue with the new part, and that is why it was
discontinued. I bought about 10 of them from PAB before Lego stopped selling
them.

They would crack in half right at the middle.

I remember buying about 100 or so of this part back then. I use them a lot in
Mocs.
