I would find it helpful if we could get a color guide based on the part.

This is to make it easier, for example, to see which part there are the most
colors of or which part of a certain color is most common or least common in
sets. Etc.

For instance

Item Known Colors Colors in sets Colors for sale Colors in wantedlists
3001 Brick 2x4 45 42 54 66
3023 Plate 1x2 53 53 45 69
....
....
.....
.....

I know that this is not exactly what you are looking for, but you can play around
with this page: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogStats.asp

I found it by clicking on the market tab and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Thank you so much for the tip, I didn't know it existed.
They should link to this page from the color guide.

I thought all the lists on the page were updated at the same time?
In that list, it says that 4073 has 64 colors.

But looking at this page https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=4073&v=3&in=S
for 4073, 63 colors are listed in ”By Color”

I understand that lego and colors are a jungle, but I interpret these lists as
starting from the same data, number of colors in sets.

Indeed the 64 listed on the catalogStats page seems to be erroneous, as clicking
through to the catalogItem page it lists 63 colors appearing in sets.

All these kind of statistics are presumably updated during the daily maintenance
so it appears you have found a bug.
