There are supposed to be studs on the raised 1x2 area in the back. Why is the
model in this catalog image without them?

Yep, that’s one bad render. And it’s used for 3 of the 5 colours.  It’s also
unfortunate it’s the default image

But, on the other hand, they are the official LEGO renders for these colours
(see Brickset: https://brickset.com/parts/design-30274 ).
