Light Gray Brick 1 x 2 is not part of this set.
Sure is: it can be seen next to the base of the mast on the pictures.
But not on the building instruction.
That’s because it’s used to prevent the mast from turning freely, and the last
step on the instructions shows the mast in use and rotated, so it can’t be there.
In those times, the instructions were for “real builders”: no parts list for
each step, no outline around the newly added parts, and no at-most-two-parts-per-step
limit. It was about building and sometimes reverse-engineering, not following
baby steps

Anyway, the brick is there on the box and in the box, and that’s the guideline
for including parts in the inventory on BL: used in the main model, or an alternate
model shown on the box. So, even if you declare the LG 1x2 brick not part of
the main model because it’s not shown in the instructions, it still needs to
be in the BL inventory because it’s in a model shown on the box.
I would call the model shown on the front of the box the main model and not an
alternate model but it’s still on the box.

(And it’s sad that we lost the discussion that led to the inclusion of this brick
to the inventory in 2012 )

Nevertheless, all parts were always shown.
Definitely not true at all. Take it from someone who studies sealed set contents
of old sets versus what appears on the packaging and in the instructions quite
often.
