Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 42110 Name: Land Rover Defender
*
42110-1 (Inv) Land Rover Defender
2573 Parts, 2019
Sets: Technic: Model: Off-Road

* Add 1 Part 65098 Light Bluish Gray Technic, Pin Double with Axle Hole with Squared Pin Holes (Alternate) (match ID 1)
* Change 1 Part Light Bluish Gray 32138 Technic, Pin Double with Axle Hole {match ID 0 to 1}

Comments from Submitter:
65098 is changed into a separate part (not alternate item id) due to function differences between the molds. (Was a alternate ID for 32138 at time of listing)

This set contains the 65098. Source is 8 new sealed sets. Highly doubt it ever contained the 32138, but can't verify that. So will ask to list it as an alternate.

Just had contact with the NelisSolis, who submitted the original inventory. He
has checked and confirmed this version has the 32138. So the 65098 is indeed
an alternate part for this set, not regular.

Do your parts actually have the part number 65098 molded on them?

The reason that I ask is that the admin team has discovered that TLG has been
basically using three types of pin designs on their parts over at least the last
two decades: (1) completely round pin holes that allow 3.2mm bars to go in all
of the way, (2) thin squared pin holes that allow 3.2mm bars to go in only a
small portion of the way under stress, and (3) thick squared pin holes that do
not allow 3.2mm bars to go in at all.

Molds currently out there run the gamut on these three types of pin holes, but
it seems that TLG is starting to make a concerted effort to standardize these.

Here is an example that we just looked into:

Part No: 2460 Name: Tile, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin
*
2460 Tile, Modified 2 x 2 with Pin
Parts: Tile, Modified
actually comes in the first two variants of the pin hole designs - completely
round and thin squared. However, they have now released a new part design (Design
ID 49153 - https://brickset.com/parts/design-49153 ) that has the thick squared
pin hole. So you cannot just look at this part to see if it has a round pin hole
or a squared one, because there are two types of squared pin holes now spread
over two different part numbers.

In conclusion, I want to make sure that you don't have the older part number
32138 with thin squared pin holes rather than the newest variant 65098 with the
thick squared pin holes. You may post a picture of your part with a bar either
in it or not to make it even better.

Cheers,
Randy

Hi Randy,

Yes, all the parts of this type have the 65098 number molded on to it.

The reason I found out about the 65098 is because I wanted to use 1 part of my
part-out from the 42110-1 to complete my 75181-1 again. However, I wasn't
able to insert the bar onto the pin in any way, not even a little bit. All parts
had 65098 molded on to it.

I came in contact with NelisSolis because I saw he had the 32138 still in stock
(in a higher number), and wanted to make sure I received the correct mold for
my 75181-1. He confirmed all his parts where of the 32138 type with the round
pin holes. I received all 15 he had, and indeed were 32138 (molded on it, and
with round holes).

Later, when working on the inventory change for the 42110-1, I saw that NelisSolis
was the user who submitted the inventory of this set as well. I contacted him
again to ask if any of the 32138 he had send me came out of the 42110-1, since
I wasn't sure if the 65098 indeed was an alternate or should have been a
regular version for this set (since there wasn't difference according at
the catalog at the time of his submission). He declined he ever parted-out the
42110-1 for parts in his store, but instead had build it for his own collection.
He confirmed his version has the 32138 in it with round holes, after a inspection
of the model.

Kind regards,

Brian
