Just realized I entered a quantity of 1 for the alternate when it could theoretically
be 2. On second thought not sure if my case counts as a valid part variation
at all?

It definitely does count as a valid part variation.
Could you please post a picture of the two pieces from the undersides for future
reference? Since 553b has not been reported in a set for a few years now, it
seems odd to see this part variation pop up again.
Also, was your copy of this set purchased as a sealed set, opened by yourself,
and the pieces of it not mixed with any other sets?

Here's that picture. Yes, it was a sealed copy. In fact, I have pictures
of the sealed bags as well as of the entire set knolled, where the different
molds are more clearly visible MIO. I've included those two as well and cropped
the latter as appropriate.

If it helps, the label on the tape seals is 43g7. I bought this set in Feb 2018,
so a late 2017 mint date checks out.
