Hey all!

Busy uploading bunches of parts when I came across 4x 4095, but they are in Dark
Grey?
According to the catalog, this part has never been released in DG.

Where does this piece come from? Is it real Lego? I have not found any fake lego
in the bunch.

Thanks!

Hey!!

There are many parts available in colors that never came in sets.
How and why these came on the market anyway I don't know.

Your DG items look like Lego to me.

Hth,
Arnoud

It's hard to tell if it's true Dark Gray, looks like it could be a color
that existed before DBG but after DG, it has a slightly greenish hue compared
to full on dark gray, it's halfway between the two. I have seen at least
one vendor refer to it as "Transitional Dark Bluish Gray" it looks just like
DG until you put it next to DBG. From the picture it is hard to tell if it is
this. But there are definitely variations that pop up all the time, which are
not known to exist. I just spotted a light gray 8x8 plate, for example, who knows
where that came from...

In the Bricklink catalog, a part becomes "known" when someone lists it in an
inventory. There are still many parts that are known to exist in real life, but
are not yet in inventories, so the catalog does not list them as "known."

It looks like this may be one of those parts. You can see that other sellers
have this for sale in this color, and some have even sold recently - at a high
price for this part!

As for where it came from I would guess one of these two sets:

Set No: 7897 Name: Passenger Train
*
7897-1 (Inv) Passenger Train
489 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 2006
Sets: Train: RC Train

Set No: 7786 Name: The Batcopter: The Chase for the Scarecrow
*
7786-1 (Inv) The Batcopter: The Chase for the Scarecrow
284 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2007
Sets: Batman I

These are the only two that currently have the DBG version inventoried, and they
are from 2006 and 2007, which is around the time Lego switched the colors. Possibly
early versions of these sets had the part in dark gray and later ones in dark
bluish gray.

I do not think these came from either of those two sets since I have double the
amount and no other parts of those sets.

Think I will list three of the DG 4095's, so check them out

LEGO switched the grays in 2004, so these sets would most likely have never contained
this part in Dark Gray. The part most likely came from excess stock sold off
from the LEGO modeling shops.

The color change happened around early 2004. By 2006, any remaining old dark
grey parts should have been cleaned out of their system, and if that's the
first time they actually made that element in dark-bley or dark-grey, they
should have used up all of their remaining dark-grey pellets. That's not
to say there's no chance that they could have uncovered a pallet or two,
but unlikely. Blending the two might be a possibility, but that bears the ugly
risk of marbling the entire run.
