I was Googling for some pictures of the LEGO Tower Bridge, set 10214. What I
find interesting, is that there are two different versions of the set BOX --
with one version showing 4287 pieces, and another version showing 4295 pieces.
The catalog entry here shows 4287. Yet, there is no supplemental information
as to what happened?
If anything, the box art WITHOUT the tree in the corner, but instead showing
the Expert label/icon, looks like the more recent box. And it is the one showing
4295 pieces.

so that you don’t see the coloured parts inside the towers through the holes.
And 4287 + 8 = 4295.
The match ID for the alternate model is 99.
Funnily, with these 2x4 plates, there are Medium Blue 1x2 plates that are not
useful anymore but that are still included.
Funny you mention this. I was building an alternate build of 10214 in the Modular
style and they kept calling for white 2x4 plates and I did not have them. Now
I know why as I've had a couple spare 10214's for ages. Thanks.
So yes, the notes and Alternate Parts section does have the alternate parts,
but these aren't just alternate parts. This is a complete change in inventory
count. There should be at a minimum a notation in the main entry itself ...
and possibly a 10214-2 catalog entry entirely so that the part counts match.

Is the catalog entry here not up to date?
Take a look at the note at the foot of the inventory:
