* Add 2 Part 3040a White Slope 45 2 x 1 - without Bottom Tube (match ID 3)

I have no problem adding the slope without bottom tube, but I'm wondering
why we're keeping the other as alternate. Since you can prove that the set
came with the slope without the bottom tube, what do you think about just replacing
3040 altogether?
If later on someone can prove the set came with the slope with a bottom tube,
then we can add it as an alternate.
I mention this because the set inventory submitter was BrickLink member garrison
with no source listed. If you look at the Peeron inventory you can see that
it was submitted by a member named TWS Garrison who cited the source there as
set instructions. BTW, over there he listed the part as not having the center
stud.
It seems to me like a sealed bag of parts takes precedence over set instructions
as a source. Your thoughts?
Personally I don't take instructions into account, they have some mistakes.
...
I just checked its instructions. It doesn't show anything.
This set appears in the catalog of 1984 (seems not in those catalogs of 1985)
so the other variant came. One proof:
Currently on bricklink, 5 sets in 1981 came with 3040a

And do you remember the yellow cones 3943a and 3943b for 7730?
Recall that I observed all 7730 in Belgium and Netherland came with 3943a.
I saw one sola in Netherland few days agon with 3943b! I asked the seller if
he bought it from Germany. He said "yes, I bought it from west Germany". I don't
know what he meant exactly by that, either West of Germany or West Germany. Either
cases, from Germany!

Ah, yes. Good catch - I forgot about checking that aspect. Since it was in
'84 catalogs, then it likely did come with the bottom tube variant.

We had in Europe after WW2 Germany split (in 1949) in West-Germany and East-Germany...
till 1990.

I think SezaR was saying it wasn’t clear if the seller was talking:
1. about the Federal Repuplic of Germany (“West Germany”), as opposed to the
German Democratic Republic (“East Germany“) from 1949 to 1990,
2. or of a more precise location “West of the FDR,” as in Western Germany, as
opposed to Southern, Northern, Eastern, or Central Germany,
3. or even if they meant “in post-1990 FDR but not in one of the former East
Germany states.”
It is not correct to quote conversation in the forum, but in this case, it should
be ok and entertaining. The seller wrote "buy" instead of "bought" so I am not
sure how good his English is. Anyway, have your own interpretation!
"Yes Sezar, we buy it in West- Germany"
