The set 7750 released between 1980-82 came first with
Part 3062a Brick, Round 1 x 1 Solid Stud
I have photos of a MISB set 7740 (released 1980-84) in which the Round 1 x 1
are 3062b. The date of its motor is form 1981 so the 3062a was replaced by 3062b
in 1981.

Are you only going by the year of release or is there something more substantial
on which you're basing these requests?

Did you check the third photo I uploaded?
We can see the red 3062a. If you are not sure the black ones are also 3062a,
please let me know so that I ask the owner of this set send me more photos. He
is currently very busy.

We can see the red 3062a.

I'm sorry, but to my eyes that 3rd photo is inconclusive for the red parts.
They could be either solid stud or open stud - it's impossible for me to
tell. The black parts, as you mention, are even worse.

When you said this:

  I have photos of a MISB set 7740 (released 1980-84) in which the Round 1 x 1
are 3062b.

I thought you were offering the photo as proof that the set came with open stud
parts, because that's what the 3062b is.

My conclusion for 7740 was wrong. I tried to say that 3062b was first released
in 1981. Now, I know that this is wrong.

I am going to receive many more photos of 4.5 and 12v trains. Please hold on
this and other train-related requests. I come back to you hopefully soon.
I have few questions:

1) Is there any set in which 3062a and 3062b were simultaneously used?
2) There is a set from 1981 coming with 3062a, and a set from 1979 coming with
3062b! The early variant was used 2 years after its replacement was released!
Do you know any other part like this?
3) The train 726 is from 726 but I didn't find it any catalog of 1977. It
surprises me this train was released only for one year. You may have more sources.
Could you check this please? (just to let you know that this train was sold in
Europe, except Great Britain)
4) For this 7750, an inventory change request was submitted with photos to add
ONE
4073 Trans-Clear Plate, Round 1 x 1 Straight Side
as extra. After, I got photos of few other sealed/MISB 7750s. In one of them
there were Three
4073 Trans-Clear Plate, Round 1 x 1 Straight Side
extra. What would you do in this case?

I have no solid proof but according to my old parts and what sets they are coming
from, I’d say yes.

See discussion about 3794a/b/15573: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1075720
My Tower Bridge with seals 45S6 (hence from the 45th week of 2016) had Tan 3794a
mixed with 3794b (and all the other jumpers were 3794b).

I have no idea, but it's definitely possible. The Alternate section of the
inventory would cover cases where this occurred.

Yes, this does occur. Older variants can appear in sets for years after newer
variants are released. To see more detailed examples of timelines regarding
variants, please look through these parts:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRelCat.asp?relID=4

  3) The train 726 is from 726 but I didn't find it any catalog of 1977. It

Sorry, but I don't have any special sources. Brickset has a catalog library
which you might check.

  4) For this 7750, an inventory change request was submitted with photos to add

It depends on what the set instructions show. Were any of the parts ever used
anywhere in the main or alternate models? Does the set box show an alternate
model in which one of the parts was used? What about the part count printed
on the box or in catalogs?

If the parts were never used anywhere and aren't part of the official part
count, then they're extras no matter how many there were. However, didn't
the parts come on sprues at this time? A count of 3 extras seems off if the
parts came in twos.

In the main or alternate model, only one 4073 Trans-Clear is used. In one sealed
set, there are 2 4073 trans-clear, coming on sprues. In the other, there are
4 of 4073 trans-clear, coming on sprues.
Currently there is one 4073 trans-clear in the inventory. What do we do in this
case? Do we change it to three? or do we write a note to mention that there can
be 1 or 3 extra 4073 tr-clear?

If the set came with 4 trans-clear part 4073 and only one was used, then the
correct quantity of extras is 3 and no note is needed to explain that sometimes
it only came with 1 extra instead of 3. Extras are variable and cannot be counted
on to be present.
