Please consider adding the following fields to the catalogue for Sets
No of bags -
Numbered bags yes/no
This would aid all and provide a place to store this information.
The number of bags occasionally not constant for different variations of sets,
and adding it might cause problems in that case. And many sets have numbered
and unnumbered bags. I'm also not sure how that info helps buying and selling.

and loose parts
I'm also not sure how that info helps buying and selling.
If it was consistent across versions/variations/runs, it’d help verify the contents
of a (somewhat sealed) set.
Checking what you buy/sell helps buying and selling
However, I think inconsistency would cause more problems than the few cases where
this info would help.

Indeed.
If you could catalogue, list and sell whole bags officially, it might make sense.
But of course that opens up a whole load of problems if the bags are different
in different runs.
However, I don't see BL doing it as a "community" thing. The catalogue is
primarily here to aid selling and buying, not as a reference guide.
Set has one bag for minifigs numbered 1, three bags for main build all numbered
2 and two bags for the car and caravan numbered 3 (like some current Friends
sets)
Inventory says "6 bags numbered" - as there are 6 bags in the set and all are
numbered
Buyer emails seller asking where bags 4, 5 and 6 are (and may or may not mention
the "duplicates" of bags 2 and 3)

That just means the catalog would need to be more precise, like yorbrick said,
by inventoring each bag (and little sub-bags with tiny parts). With all the variations….
And look at the number of times someone came here to know how many bags / what’s
in the bags. A couple a year?
There’s a time when it’s “good enough” and more isn’t better.
(But eh, if someone wants to compile that info, good for them. )
