My suggestion is to turn off the auto-log out feature or reimburse me for all
my lost time when I type a message to a customer, forum post, other other item
and lose the message because the the stupid feature.

I'll settle for $10 fees credit for every time I get logged out when I submit
a message.

Thanks

Ken

If you are happy paying for a service that forces you to do that go ahead

I am not and I am suggesting THEY do the work, instead of ME, I pay them.

Easier: CTRL-post which posts in a separate tab, leaving the original un-lost.
No need to copy/paste.

Very useful when submitting a part-out verification which has a lot of edits.
Sometimes they time out, and I never lose the edits if I hold CTRL when clicking
a button.

I get auto-logged out each night at scheduled downtime. Does it happen more
often for others?

Pie is in my face. It didn't work, despite the ability to CTRL-verify.
I posted the above message with CTRL key and it used current tab, not a new one.
Bug in forum code?

I've never heard of this shortcut before. It doesn't seem to work in
Chrome on a Mac. What are you using?

Chrome on W-7, sometimes W-8
Works on IE as well. Clicking any link (and usually button) with Ctrl held opens
the link/button output in a new tab, not the existing one, saving the work you've
done in the current tab to allow a 2nd attempt if needed.
But it seems not to work for post button in this forum, and my reply to myself
says.

In BrickLink, can't you just hit the back button on your browser from a timed-out
page to get back to your message pre-post/send? That usually works for me if
I get an unexpected logout before completing a task. Then I just open a new
tab and log in, and go back to the original and send/post.

I do not believe this is normal behavior for the site. I only seem to get logged
out at the evening update or when I log in from another device.

You could always open another window and test that you are logged in before you
hit submit on any page.

Good luck,
Jen

I wonder if it has to do with me being on Satellite Internet and having pings
that might take too long for Bricklink's security features...but I'm
no expert in this.

I don't get logged out for at least an hour, it is likely that your internet
provider is the culprit...

Off topic of the thread, but did you update the white van?

Off topic of the thread, but did you update the white van?

I did in two aspects....

I upgraded the LEGO Van to a better looking and more streamlined one, and 2 years
ago, I got made redundant from the White Van job, I retrained my self to drive
LGVs, and the firm I work for (K+N), has a contract with Whitbread, who has one
for Costa Coffee, while the 14 tonne Lorries base colour is white, the body colour
is now a Dark Red...

lol

Have you tried to always have an additional window/tab which permanently shows
MyBrickLink?
On some pages you get logged out after some time but not on MyBrickLink.
The main forum page should also work.

Yous guys don't get the point, it isn't a problem for ME to fix, it is
a problem for THEM to fix, me do nothing, I PAY THEM

do you call a plumber and then let him sit at your kitchen table why you try
work arounds?

If there is a problem with Satellite internet, I do not have the knowledge to
diagnose such an issue.

If there is a browser issue, I also do not have this knowledge.

But, I am getting very darn (want to throw in explicatives, must control myself)
agitated about getting logged out and losing work.

I should not have to copy and paste to "make sure" my text does not get lost,
I should not have to log in every hour when I am actively using the site.

I have submitted a link to this thread to the help desk.

But my suggestion is to fix the website so a user that is forced to use my ISP
can use the site normally.

Hi,

Me thinks it's NSA or the chinese that hacked your satellite connection

Change provider or type faster....or save your messages upfront.

Software use on BL is free ...what you pay is a sales comission...after you sold
something,
I can't remember BL giving guarantees for the use of their software, and they
also not charge for it either.

Cheers

Chris

It is isn't free, it is use first, pay later

I can't change ISP unless I want to go to dial-up, there is no utility besides
electric and phone brought to the top of the mountain I live on. The cell service
is too inconsistent to try a network card from a cellular service.

sucks, I tried downloading music from a free promo I got (Judas Priest Redeemer
of Souls) and it took 35 min to download 10 songs

Well as long as you dont sell ,one can use BL for free,to browse, buy ,vent on
the forum etc.
You have one advantage when you live on top of your hill....you're closer
to the satellites
If your celluar service is too inconsistant, your satelite connection /gps etc
most probably will be too....start digging for a cable connection or use the
tamtam.

Cheers

If your celluar service is too inconsistant, your satelite connection /gps etc
most probably will be too....start digging for a cable connection or use the
tamtam.

Cheers

Chris

This is why we don't have cable/fiber optic lines, the mountain is very rocky
(expensive to dig). When the builder tested for soil perk they could not drill
like most septic tests, they had to dig pits that would test if the soil would
perk or not, on the bottom half of my lot there are about 5 "graves" from where
the builder was testing the soil perk.

Have you tried to always have an additional window/tab which permanently shows
MyBrickLink?
On some pages you get logged out after some time but not on MyBrickLink.
The main forum page should also work.

a problem for THEM to fix, me do nothing, I PAY THEM

do you call a plumber and then let him sit at your kitchen table why you try
work arounds?

If there is a problem with Satellite internet, I do not have the knowledge to
diagnose such an issue.

If there is a browser issue, I also do not have this knowledge.

But, I am getting very darn (want to throw in explicatives, must control myself)
agitated about getting logged out and losing work.

I should not have to copy and paste to "make sure" my text does not get lost,
I should not have to log in every hour when I am actively using the site.

I have submitted a link to this thread to the help desk.

But my suggestion is to fix the website so a user that is forced to use my ISP
can use the site normally.

My first thought was that a BL login is saved by IP address. Here's what
I thought:

When you login to BL, their server grabs your IP address and saves it as your
login credentials. While you are browsing the site, you are logged in so long
as you access the site using the same ip address. If your IP address changes
somehow, the login is no longer valid, and you are considered "logged out".
This would be the culprit if your ISP uses DHCP for the IP address it assigns
you, and then somehow it gets changed/reset and then BL no longer recognizes
the new IP address with your login credentials and logs you out.

However, I have proven this to not be what's happening. I logged into my
device on WIFI using one ISP and IP address, then I disconnected it from that
ISP and connected it to a totally different ISP and got a new IP address, and
confirmed that I was still logged in.

I don't know why you are getting logged out all of the time. I only get
logged out when I put my computer to sleep, and when it wakes up I have to login
again. I can confirm it has nothing to do with IP address changes, which could
have been possible with satellite internet.

What operating system (Mac? Linux? Windows? Other?), device (Mac? iPhone? Tablet?
PC Laptop? PC Desktop?), and browser (Firefox? IE? Chrome? Safari? Other?) are
you using to access BL?

How is that device connected to your ISP's router? (Wifi? Bluetooth? LAN
Cable?)

Well, the only two things I can come up with are your satellite internet causing
some sort of issue with the BL login, or there really is some sort of glitch
with BL and how it processes / times out logins.

I would side more towards the satellite internet somehow causing the issue.
From my experience, website logins can be tricky when dealing with strange internet
setups (yes, satellite internet would be 'strange'. I had our Calgary
office setup to use two separate ISPs to connect to a service we use for government
reporting. The load balancing router would automatically switch from one ISP
to the other based on load. Well, the switch would cause the login to be invalid
and while you were submitting a report, if it switched from one to the other,
and you submitted, it would say you were logged out and you'd lose the report
you were filing.

I then had to switch it back to one ISP to use and the other as a failover only.
But this is a non-BL example of what you're experiencing.

I hope you get it sorted out.

The login normally times out after 45(?) minutes.
Many BrickLink pages are auto-reloaded to avoid the timeout.
If you're on a BL page which does not auto-reload, such as all pages you
can edit (forum post, sell item, wanted list entry etc.), no page can be reloaded
and your login times out.
If your browser or PC is shut down, you get auto logged out.

I seem to be logged out once a day, always at the scheduled downtime.
I also have 3-4 tabs open (buying, selling, catalog, download)
