Looking at the image, they might originate in
 
Set No: 4686 Name: Little Farm

50 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2004
Sets: DUPLO: DUPLO, Town: Farm
so the 2x2 is probably from 2004-2005 also.

Is there someone that can confirm this?
