In replying to forum posts, the standard system setting is to quote the post
you are replying to. This generates LARGE texts that one has to scroll through
to get the additional post made by the poster.

Please set this standard to OFF:

- makes the forumposts cleaner
- readingspeed increases
- mouses/PGDWN-keys will last longer due to less scrolling
- less data storage needed on servers

(has been requested two times before, no follow-up unfortunately)

Voted no. I think a better solution would be to simply have two buttons

"Reply" and "Quote"

The concept might have been invented already after this forum was created, but
I say it is a time for a small upgrade

Also, the "Cancel" button should not be there if you are not the OP

That option is better indeed, but needs more programming

Ahh yes... according to the latest news BL is actually sinking into red numbers.
We dont want to risk it going bankrupt, by needing to hire extra help for programming

However. I still vote "no" because you can always choose to CTRL+A before you
write a reply. It is better to have the default setting "on" because... well
imagine you are a new user, trying to read the forum. And later trying to figure
out why he can not quote, but others can. BL 1.0 is challenging enough for a
simple navigation already. Not even to mention that you can not even see previous
messages when writing a reply.

a) then it needs to somehow occur to you (a new user) that there is a setting
for that + b) you need to find that setting. Difficult!

How do you change the setting to "off" anyways?

And lastly... use a screen of proper size and resolution, so you dont need to
abuse your mouse/PGDWN keys

You can't as a user. It is coded in the system....

Try to find a monitor that big......!

oh.. yes, yes of course. Just checkin.

Well, joking aside, I dont find scrolling to be an issue. Even though I am using
a laptop, at 1920x1080 resolution the amount of scrolling is typically quite
minimal. Although it's a huge screen for a laptop - 18.4"

And still, I prefer to see the text that I am replying to in front of me. Had
to go back and check your original message while typing, because you deleted
the damn thing! My memory span is shorter than the amount of time it takes to
scroll the text down

I would make this an option for each user. I usually delete the previous post
unless I'm replying to specific parts of it and want it noted just above.

Most people are fine with a $10 keyboard and $5 mouse so replacing worn out part
due to excessive scrolling is a moot point. Beside more and more are using tablet
and phone where touch screen feature doesn't "wear" out like keyboard and
mouse do.

All you have to do to avoid that is simply to delete the text you didn't
write!
This feature would be completely pointless when designers could be
working on more important things!

Like cosmetic overhauling the front page ?

I do delete the non-relevant parts (see this reply for instance) in my replies.
Most users don't, that can be annoying to quickly read through a thread with
20+ replies.
I guess your activity on the forum is not that big, so your not annoyed by it

That would be nice, it does not look too good.

I'm on here about every day, which is quite often, but if anything, all that's
necessary is a better explanation of how to use the Forum.
