This suggestion is actually a polite request for a Roundtable discussion in the
BrickLink Forum with Mr. Kim's direct participation. Face-to-face Roundtables
in Europe, the USA and elsewhere help. But they are not enough, impractical and
too costly for many to attend. There are also questions and jealousies about
who gets invited to these face-to-face Roundtables. What is the selection criteria
and how representative are they of the rest of us?

Anyone reading the Forum for the past year will note the obvious discontent and
anxiety many here have about BrickLink. Although the new "Customer Service" team
seems to be a step in the right direction, many are wondering if they are addressing
the right issues or really able to address the many issues facing BrickLink.
In fact, many here wonder whether the new owner - Mr. Kim - is even aware of
the extent of this discontent and anxiety, and what needs to be done to improve
BrickLink and regain the confidence so many have lost over the past year or two.
Many are frustrated by the seeming lack of progress and lack of clear vision,
objectives and involvement by BrickLink's new owner and management. This
is particularly worrisome for those members whose livelihoods depend solely or
primarily on BrickLink.

I know some may have reservations about the free-for-all nature that may be inherent
in this sort of Town Hall Meeting style of Roundtable. But it can still be a
worthwhile endeavor for Mr. Kim, BrickLink and BrickLink's members. We just
won't bus in a load of angry Tea Partiers or Occupy Wallstreeters. Seriously...
we can agree on rules in advance and have several mods present to keep order.
If you are worried about the public nature of such a Roundtable and it being
available for non-members to read or listen in on, tweak things so that it is
available only to members. Or reserve and "borrow" someplace else where this
can occur online and post how any BrickLink member who wants to can attend and
participate.

In short... We want to hear from the Boss. No, not Bruce Springstein or Lord
Business. But the guy who can get things done around here. The Buck-Stops-Here
Top Tamale. And we hope he will listen to us as well.

I'm not sure the forum is the best medium, what about a Google+ Hangout or
something similar? That's as close as a face-to-face round table as we can
get.

The Roundtable does not have to take place on the BL forum. Today's technology
offers better places to have this. But it should be an open invitation to all
forum readers.

In my retail management days, during training sessions, I would occasionally
say to someone who was in the middle of something all too important to look up
and pay attention "Your hair is on fire" Which would get a laugh out of most,
and get the person not paying attention ejected from potential management.

Rule #1 Listen to your customer!
Rule #2 Respond to your customer's questions, and answer them.
Rule #3 It's ok to say "I don't know"
Rule #4 Look up the answer and get back to your customer with a response.

A lack of response = a lack of care. If a business doesn't care about me,
why on earth would I care about them?

I have high hopes for the future of BL, but, just as Myspace failed, so might
BL....

This is one of the key traits I look for when interviewing job candidates. It
requires both the ability to be humble while maintaining a confidence in your
other abilities that makes you comfortable acknowledging a limitation.

I feel saying 'I don't know' proof of pure selfknowledge. It is not
always regarded as such, but being aware of ones limitations is a very powerful
force.

Nicely put.
I vote YEAH!

With technologies available, a webinar or skype conference call can do the trick.
That saves a lot of time and money travelling

Voted No.

I'd much rather meet with the people that can help us rather (programmers,
marketers, etc...) than the figurehead or the CEO. It is often a matter of "Do
you want to talk to the boss...or the person that can actually help you".

Thor I've forwarded your request on up the ladder. I don't know if
or when something like this might be arranged, but I can assure you it will be
considered. I've also responded below to some of your statements.

Anyone reading the Forum for the past year will note the obvious discontent and
anxiety many here have about BrickLink.

I've been looking over the forums for the past week and this is certainly
apparent to me. This is actually the reason I've been brought on to the BL
team. My goal is to improve the communication and sharing between BL users and
management.

BL and regain the confidence so many have lost over the past year or two.
Many are frustrated by the seeming lack of progress and lack of clear vision,
objectives and involvement by BrickLink's new owner and management. This
is particularly worrisome for those members whose livelihoods depend solely or
primarily on BL.

While I'm not sure some of the heated posts I've seen were particularly
beneficial, I can certainly understand where they are coming from. When finances
are involved and things are out of your control, it's normal to be concerned.

While from your perspective there has been a lack of progress and clear vision,
I think the real issue is that the vision and progress have not been properly
shared with the members who have concerns. That's why Alice brought me on,
so I could fix this communication failure. I can assure you there has been progress,
it's just that most of it is behind the scenes or related to the 2.0 BL release
planned for May. I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but fixing
the existing BL site was not feasible due to its outdated coding. I've seen
many comments about why haven't they fixed this big issue or that big problem
and then assume that the management either doesn't know or doesn't care.
The reality is they are aware of the many issues and are working to fix them,
but they can't just do a quick patch to the existing site. I don't have
a lot of details on the specifics for the 2.0 version, but I know a number of
the problems will be addresed with that launch. I've requested a list of
any specifics about 2.0 that I can share with you guys on the forum to address
your concerns. As soon as I know what's coming, you will too.

I know it's difficult to be patient, but it will be rewarded. I know Bricklinks
future is bright, we just have to go through these growing pains first!

Aye, Dan did not comment his code, which was unexpectedly handed to Eric.
We get that part.

What we don't get is the lack of communication, and appearant repeated placation.

And yes, thank you, as I know you, and Sean, for taking on this burden.

As I've said, and is seemingly the feeling of the community, we want BL 2.0
to work, and work well. But also, we are all willing to get off a ship that has
hit an iceburg and is unwilling to tell the passengers it's sinking.

In essence. Show us.

We don't need/want fancy stuff. We just need a ship that sails and a star
to guide us.

Hi Amanda,

I wish you well here.

On one focus.

If I have been reading things right there will be no new interface/change in
workflow type things going on until what Alice called 3.0 and this will be a
year or more form now. Changes to what I think was called parts and set divisions
to be more specific.

Being "new" you may not know the expression 2.0 has been the buzz term for a
redone version of the site for a couple years now. People not on top of their
reading may assume 2.0 means big changes to daily workflow rather than the MOC
shop.

First we heard of 3.0 was a very short time ago and it's never been "officially"
announced that I know of.

I have been more relaxed since I saw it was said a year from now until what I
have thought of as 2.0 will be close.

If you could really make this clear so people who are concerned about the changes
3.0 will bring understand it's not in the next couple months. Confirm in
a nice banner message that 2015 should be the year and qualify exactly what 3.0
will be and I figure this would lesson the anxiety and almost answer the most
common question.

People don't want to hear soon if it's not going to be soon, thinking
it's soon builds tension. Not seeing it soon breeds disappointment and lack
of trust.

Happy to be corrected if I am off on any information.

Joe

Sorry, but I don't see way too many drawbacks.
- With the current climate, exasperation, and faceless nature of the internet,
the roundtable will almost assuredly get nasty.
- I perceive the fundamental issue to be a discrepancy between a call for action
(by users) and a lack of evidence of action (by owner). Users will ask more
questions, and be told more answers. Otherwise known as BL 1.0 business as usual.
(I'm just failing to see what the roundtable would yield that the vague,
promising forum posts for BrickLink reps have not yielded).
- It is essentially a "one-on-_____" meeting. How can one person adequately
recognize and respond to a large group of users. While the majority of users
wouldn't participate, it wouldn't seem to take more than 5-10 users to
overwhelm the 1 responder. I'm pretty sure more than 10 people have many,
serious questions.

Lack of specific feedback is not an issue. I know the type of answers and suggestions
we sent in and they weren't brief. (...and that is when we thought we would
be at a roundtable in two weeks time in Seattle to expand on those answers)

I have seen some of the input that others provided and it was far more in depth
than we provided.

To us, this seemed like all for naught. In a way it seemed like Bricklink asked
all the wrong questions because they were not really prepared to act on a great
majority of the answers. If they had just asked about the MOC shop or they
had started questions with something like "What features will be valuable to
you 18 months from now..." I think that the expectations would be different.

Yes, there has certainly been some confusion with this whole situation and communication
back and forth. With a little time, I think we can resolve these issues. Keep
in mind that the new ownership has been in place for less than a year and sorting
this out is new to all of us. We are figuring things out as we go, and may not
always choose the best option the first time. Let's face it, this is a very
unique website and community, and there is just no instruction manual for managing
all of the different aspects or how best to resolve all of the major issues it
currently has.

However, I can assure you that sharing your feedback was not a waste of time.
You may not have seen the changes you want, but that doesn't mean they aren't
being considered or even already in development for the future. I also know that
Alice is working on a survey with some of the members suggestions that will allow
members to rank them for priority. This will give us a baseline of which things
you would like to see sooner than later. I don't know when this will be posted,
but we started compiling and sorting through the feedback earlier this week.

As a final note, I wanted to mention that some of the big changes we all want
to see, are just not possible to fix in the existing BL website. This has to
do with the way it was originally designed. Some fixes we can do, but it does
limit our options.

Thanks for your thoughts.
