Hi,

I am finding the My Order Note field very useful and wonderful to have.

However, the maximum length of 100 characters is a bit small for some of the
notes I would like to make.

Can this be increased to, say, 200 without a schema change to the database (i.e.,
is it limited only by the maxlength="100" attribute of the ⟨input⟩
tag or by the database schema itself)? I don't need to see the whole string
(it's ok if it scrolls) but it would be nice to be able to add more.

Here are some examples of the notes I've been writing (after squeezing down
to the 100-character limit):

• (Holding order open by request.)
• Packed and ready to mail. Weight is 8.8 pounds.
• Credit is 2% discount for personal check. Shipping calculation was exact.
• Refunded $2.85 for overestimate of shipping. Package weighed 28 oz.
• Shipped before receiving payment. Rick is a trusted old LEGO friend.

In order to keep some of these within the 100-character limit, in many cases
I've gone back and deleted an earlier note-fragment to make room. Ideally,
I'd like enough room not to have to prune note-fragments, so that, for example,
I can keep track, for each package, of how much I calculated shipping would be
prior to mailing, compared to how much it actually was — which allows me to better
learn from any errors and improve my workflow.

An example of notes I would like to make but are too long for the 100-character
limit is:

• Added $4.45 to shipping and applied $4.45 credit for bookkeeping because I
estimated shipping at $5.80 but it was actually $10.25.
• Postage was actually $15.05, but I am paying the $3.05 insurance fee in this
case. See message history for rationale.

Thanks for consideration,
--Todd

I am loving your enthusiasm.

Just wanted to point out, there has been I think one suggestion implemented since
I started here and it was a fairly major site error.

I am not suggesting you stop, I made one fairly recently when I thought things
were going to move forward qickly after the sale, but it is good to keep in mind
when planing use of your time.

Well, I'm assuming a couple things...

1) If nobody is able to implement suggestions in the near term, then presumably
someone is keeping track of suggestions for consideration in BL 2.0...

2) I assume the BrickOwl people are reading the BrickLink forums, and if they
happen to find any of the suggestions here to be useful, then it would benefit
the larger LEGO community if they implemented things that BrickLink doesn't
have the time/resources to implement.

Certainly possible, I personally have run out of faith on that due to the approach
on collecting community input the last year. Most seems more like PR for the
front page and putting out fires to me rather than genuine interest. Time will
tell.

Last time I made a strong comment about nothing being done it was the next day
they started fixing the bad errors. It may be I’ve yet again put my foot in
my mouth at an inopportune time. May that I be wrong and my faith is renewed.

Kudos to you for thinking of the community as a whole.

Turning this into a contest. I claim the "See message history for rationale".
Now you need to add a note to your order note "Correctly identified note"

MY Note on the order now reads...
Real postage=$15.05 He pays $3.05 insurance. See order messages. Contest=Identified
Note? Yes!

Just remember that you might want to read it in a year. With Thor's I would
be scratching my head and trying to remember what the abbreviations were for.

Ya, I'll have to devise a set of simple abbreviations that I use regularly
so that I can remember all the codes!

And certainly, I don't need to be saying "Package weighed 8.8 pounds" — just
saying "8.8 lbs" is pretty likely to be unambiguous.
