I've always dreamed about going into a store, scanning a Lego product with
my phone and a Bricklink app, then knowing instantly how much I could get if
I parted that set out. Please make it. I think it would help out all the sellers
here.

It could help both sellers and buyers.

Scan a LEGO product barcode, then the app searches for the product

Displays part out value new/used, retail value, avg set sale new/used. The pertinent
info.

This is a great idea and would add a great deal to "ease of use". Also maybe
even add an add to inventory button? This could make adding sets to inventory
much faster.

Good one in my opinion,
Chris

Do I understand you right that you volunteer to enter all the barcodes into the
BL database?

Or the database could be built as unknown barcodes are scanned

There is an app similar to this for (unnamed auction site) users. I saw it in
action when a friend of mine was selling off a bunch of his action figures and
collect able Star Wars stuff. There two ladies came in and started scanning barcodes
and the app told them all the sales info. I would gladly pay up to $10 for
a BL app like this. It would quickly let me know what sets were worth purchasing
for parting out.

Yes, I would volunteer for the job. Many people could. If a barcode gets scanned
and it is not in the system, the user could input the info if he/she chooses
too. To prevent people from messing with the system, you could impose that the
barcodes must be approved or verified before actually being usable in the barcode
system. Up to the new owners of course.

But yes, I would volunteer my time and travel to my local stores and start scanning
and adding.

Amazon has that with their catalogue of much more than Lego sets.

I actually made a test app that you enter the set number and it gets the Part
Out Value of the set. Or something like that.

It was for Android. Never uploaded to Market/Play because I didn't have
an account and it was a terrible app. I don't think I have the original
.APK file, so I can't upload it to, say, DropBox to share, even if I wanted
to.

I was waiting for BL 2.0 to start again on a similar app, but I've started
to write a little Java library for use with Java, particularly the Android OS.
So far, I'm messing around with Item Type Objects. I'll make a separate
post about my whole idea later.

Assuming I finish the whole project (it's an ambitious idea) I'd have
to email Admin for permissions and other stuff.
