| The admins are having a hell of a time keeping up with all the scattered posts
and questions in the fourms during the updates and repairs to the system... Maybe
a new tab up top for "News" or "System Status"?

I Vote yes. There a great idea. Especially in situations such as this. It certainly
would be helpful to be able to get the latest update from admin with the click
of a button

He's already added the Twitter feature with the
link right up at the top of the page under the logo.
And the Twitter update you can use to check status
even when the site itself is down.
And in the forum, when the site is "up", Admin always
posts in topic "Administrative", which is the very first
topic in the list if you hit the search button.
How much easier do you need it to be?
If a standalone button is added for everything, pretty
soon you have a page full of buttons, none of which is
easy to find.
I vote "no".

True. Yeah the twitter page does this I guess. On reflection I suppose you can't
have a page for every eventuality.

do you really expect people who don't even look for and read admin posts here
on the forum to go to twitter, possibly sign up there to read the news and updates?
Besides, this is the bricklink site. Why do we need to go to a different site
to find out what's going on with this one? Twitter is great for times when bricklink
might be down. But updates should be posted here visible and clearly, not only
for this issue but also for any problems that might arise down the road.
I vote yes.

I can see both sides to this one. Some people would find it helpful as perhaps
I would. On the other hand I believe there's a way of looking at the forum and
see just admins messages. Though I might be wrong
Plus you don't have to sign up for twitter to see his updates. So that's a good
thing when the site has to be taken down entirely.

Yes. Instead of searching the forum for all messages in
the topic "Administrative" which would get admin's *and* the
replies, you can just search for messages by: Admin (username)

If this site was having problems and you wanted to know what is going on how
would you get to that news page? That is why having it somewhere else is good.
You don't have to sign up for twitter to read twitter posts.
I do think that he should be able to make important posts "sticky" like in other
forums so they show at the top of forum list all the time.

I guess one can't expect too much, if *you* can't even click on it
and see you don't have to "go" anywhere or "do" anything
Once this "crisis" is over, there won't be any news or system status updates
to post, so people won't get in the habit of using that new tab anyway. They'll
just come to the forum and we'll be back where we started anyway. Admin is
able to put a banner across the top of the web site if he needs to (and it's
up),
and refer us to Twitter if it's not. So ... what more do you want?
