I understand everyone starts out at zero at some point but sometimes dealing
with new buyers can be a pain for any number of reasons. And I know some sellers
are more then willing to deal with it, and 90% its not that big of a deal for
me either. But due to a couple of pending orders I have now that have from new
buyers with shipping address issues and their lack for response for days it got
me thinking.

In the "My Store Settings" under "My Store Options:".

The same place you find the "Disallow members with negative feedback score to
buy from my store".

Add a new check box that says...

Disallow buyers with less then (seller types number in box) positive feedback
to buy from my store.

Put something in your store terms, that states you will cancel orders from users
with negative feedback.
This will allow you to just cancel the orders as they come in.
When you do cancel, make sure you send the buyer a message telling them that
this is in your store terms, and the reason you are canceling.

That is an option. But I believe that creates more a problem because sellers
store terms aren't truly enforceable after the order has been made.

I could cancel if I had that in my store terms. But even though it was stated
in my store terms they can leave neutral or negative feedback. And unless an
Admin states otherwise putting in for a feedback removal for this reason would
be denied.

I myself had to cancel an order due to a buyer not following my store terms and
it was even at their request and couldn't have their feedback removed.

Dear Admin,

In order to spark some discussion by members of the BL community and for those
Admin that make the decisions about implementing such changes, here are some
thoughts...

I understand BL was created to provide the community with a safe place to sell
and acquire Legos by those that love them. I also know that BL is a business
which needs to create revue, so that is where I will start.

How does this benefit BrickLink?

Overall I believe it will create more revenue. Just for the reason buyers and
sellers alike will both enjoy better shopping and selling experiences. Which
I talk about a bit more in detail below.

And the best way to insure an increase in revenue and not a decrees is to have
a max limit a seller can enter into the box. I think the max number that should
be considered shouldn't be over 20, because this would benefit new sellers the
most. The least you should consider setting the max at should be 10, because
in my option that is what most store terms reflect if it is found in them.

And because of this I believe across the board you'd see less store terms that
state things like, buyers with less then this amount of feedback, can't or must
do this. Which could mean less issues for BL to deal with when a buyer or seller
doesn't have a satisfactory experience. And less work for the Admins is always
a plus.

How does this benefit new buyers?

I fell this will benefit them because stores with business licenses or here to
make a profit are much more experienced and wouldn't even think of using this
option, at least in my option. To them it would mean more sells and less competition.
This in turn will benefit the newer buyer because they will be making purchases
from those with more experienced stores which would be more capable to help them
while still providing them with superb customer service they deserve. Which in
turn I think will increase the % of return buyers because there is a greater
chance for a good shopping experience.

How does this benefit sellers?

As stated above, those stores that would never think about using that option
would see increased sales. But to be fair they would probably see increased amount
of helping newer buyers. However I think the increased sales out weights the
trouble because they have more options available to them, such as writing off
loses.

For new stores/sellers it will mean less anxiety while learning the ropes. Which
will allow them to provide better service to the buyers they do sell to. And
because the sellers experience would be a better also, while learning all the
in and outs, I think BL would see less shops close.

For all other sellers/stores, such as the hobby seller, it would pretty much
help out in the same way it does for new stores/sellers. The only difference
is because they have gone through their growing pains they could focus on sales,
which could mean a small increase in revenue. And any increase in revenue no
matter how small is a good one.

Regards,
Joshua

I don't honesty see how it's possible that limiting people who could by, simply
by diverting them to bigger shops, would increase revenue.

This may protect some sellers, this would not benefit either buyers or bricklink.

I honestly don't think you can have the best of both worlds.
You could put a lock on your shop saying that anyone wishing to browse it can
ask you for a password and if they have appropriate feedback (to your liking),
then you give them the password.

But of course, this means all your items won't show up in searches.

And what if every single seller decided to put this into effect?

Based on other replies to this post is proof enough there are many buyers who
would not even consider using this option. Also limiting the number that can
be entered into the option also prevents cutting off buyers all together.

I think a lot of it could be fix by updating the BL site so it was more user
friendly to new buyers. But I don't see that type of update happening any time
in the foreseeable future. And is another reason why this option makes sense
to me.

I don't honesty see how it's possible that limiting people who could by, simply
by diverting them to bigger shops, would increase revenue.

I have no way to know for sure since I have no access to info that is probably
only available to the site owners and select Admin. My thought is that many new
buyers struggle with how BL works and how some things are listed. And by diverting
"new" buyers to more older experienced stores the outcome of them having a satisfactory
experience will create return business, thus increasing revenue for the BL site.

Also BrickLink isn't making revenue if stores are closing and have read plenty
of threads were sellers are offering to sell their entire stores or asking for
advice on how to effective deplete their inventory so they can close their store.
So if newer stores where able to sell to already established buyers their selling
experiences would be better as they went though the growing pains of learning
all the in and outs of selling on BL. Which I think would mean less sellers wanting
to close their stores. Now maybe enough new stores open every month to negate
old stores closing so that may not even be an issue, but again I have no access
to that info so don't have any way of knowing. Regardless of that the more stores
that stay open and sell at the 6 month average the more revenue BL makes.

This may protect some sellers, this would not benefit either buyers or bricklink.

I think it's a ridiculous option, so I voted "yes".

(Any store that wants to turn away buyers, I say more power to 'em. It means
more orders for me.)
