I see no reason to empty a user's shopping cart, automatically, after X days
(or is it hours?).
Or significantly increase the value of X.
Having items in my cart does not tie up the inventory.
It only keeps track (from me) of things I am considering buying.
I see no negative impact on anyone else if I have these items in my cart for
more than one day.
It takes time to go through a store and select items.

One reason is sales. If I am having a "tonite only" price. I don't want someone
ringing it through checkout 10 days later. It greatly reduces the effect of
sales if you can simply have carts running in several stores locked in to short
term promo prices from days or weeks ago. It's not a bad idea, but it needs
tweaking.

Good point.
Right now, we get a warning if we have items in our cart which have since sold
our (or for which sufficient quantities are no longer available). We could get
a similar warning if the price of items have changed since adding them to the
cart. I don't see why it should be possible to "lock-in" a price by having it
in a cart. (Though I do realize that's how it works now, and I did happen to
benefit from this one time.)

Does having items in a cart lock in a price?
Are you sure?
