| Hi everyone,
What I would like to see is a button you could select to notify you if an item
you have in your wanted list is down to a certain level.
There are a number of items I have on wanted lists that may have 3-10 available.
These are actually the items I tend to purchase first as I'd like to get them
before the possibility of them running out, minifigs are a good example.
With a "Last Chance" notification, you would be able to select getting a notification
on an item before it runs out. This way if you are putting off buying something
because of price, store location, buying minimums, whatever, you may buy it before
the possibility of the item being gone (at least for awhile).
In addition, instead of everyone receiving the same notification and rushing
to buy the one item remaining, it would be nice to be able to type in a number,
setting a level of comfort, such as being notified if there are 2 left, 5 left
etc...
Thank for reading,
Rich

On Bricklink as a whole or only in certain stores?

Left where, on Bricklink as a whole or in certain stores?

On BrickLink as a whole, just as I have notifications that new items are being
added, I think it would be more important to be notified if there are only 2-3
of an item for sale left on my Wanted List. I would consider purchasing those
items sooner rather than later.

I mean gone from BrickLink for good, or until someone puts one up for sale again.

Yes, on BrickLink as a whole. If I have a minifig on my Wanted List and there
are only 2 available on all of BrickLink, I will buy one of these right away
instead of a minifig that there are 20 of.
Thanks for responding, it's appreciated.

| You can specify a price, so it only notifies you if it is listed at that price.
But I do not know if it will notify you if a pre-existing listing goes down to
that price.

| Seems like it would be easy to abuse. A seller (especially with a rare item)
could just only list a few at a time to coerce people into buying "before it's
too late"

Hi,
Exactly my thoughts! (Although I even *have* certain special parts listed that
no one else offers )
Indeed, it would be an easy way to manipulate buyers into ordering...
I don't like these practices and wouldn't do it myself!
(If the whole lot of a certain HTF or Special part in my store is gone, I will
have no more to sell or I would have to be very lucky to run into more after
these have sold out!)
Certainly, if the original poster's suggestion would be implemented -based on
the quantities there are *currently* available- you might get constant rushes
at certain sets/ parts/ minifigs and the prices would drastically increase (even
more than todays) at each new listing, untill
a) nobody wants to pay the asking price anymore
or b) until nobody wants or needs these items anymore.
On the long run I think it would let the market for such items totally collapse.
So it's obvious I voted 'No'...
BrickLink may 'know' how many of each item for sale are currently available,
but the system can not know how many are 'off the shelves', stockroomed... to
get listed in a later stadium.
Besides, what about new sellers (perhaps former buyers) that are relisting items,
previously sold out?
And personally -when I'm looking to buy items- I find it interesting to do some
research labor; comparing item prices, store terms, quantities available etc.
I think it's part of the hobby, finding the right balance between 'when to buy?',
'where to buy?, 'how much to buy?' etc.
And sometimes I even let an item go... even when I have the money, even if it's
'the last one available'.
Yes, it takes a lot of time doing all the research (but to me it's worth it).
It's simply a matter of making choices and you can't always get what you want.
Well.... maybe later.
IMHO I think the original poster can not spend or does not want to spend the
time 'looking around', waiting too long.
Perhaps a little afraid, missing out on certain items for sale?
Well, if that's the case then my advise would be:
*Buy Now* if you really, really want it!
(assuming you got the money of course... and the wife approves... )
Have a nice weekend.

I'm not sure that is what the original poster meant..
I am thinking he meant that if you put an item of a certain color on your wanted
list that you would get a notification when the Bricklink community quantity
goes down to a certain level.. ie you list it as wanted when there were 100 of
them thinking you might get a better price with a notify at 10 parts left.. the
part over time is discontinued and drops to say 9 parts available.. You would
then get a notify stating that that particular part is at or below your threshold
you would then be able to go buy that item at whatever the price was on the parts
available at that time..
I actually think it is not such a bad idea.. as I am interpreting it.. as it
would allow a buyer to get what they need before it disappears for months or
even years.. Granted it would create rushes at each level but that happens already
with rare parts that people have on their "email me" when available list. They
are usually gone within seconds of the notify at whatever price.
As far as perceived Scarcity.. that can be a problem now as mentioned above if
you have the Email me notes put on.
