Please add an entry for Telephone Number to the info members enter when supplying
their address. This information should NOT be mandatory, but optional for those
that wish to supply it.
There are a number of instances where a phone number is necessary and / or beneficial.
The USPS requires a phone number for international orders to a PO Box. Parcel
services such as FedEx and UPS also request phone numbers for recipients.
Many members also wish to supply their phone number, but this is usually accomplished
by including it as part of their address or by sending it in a separate e-mail.
This can be confusing and the number can get lost in the shuffle.
Again, this would be optional. I don't wish to force anyone to divulge information
that they do not wish to. But some people want to provide the info, and some
people need it, so it would be nice for there to be a place for it.
As a bonus, I would like to have different settings for buying and selling.
As in one number for orders I place and one number for orders I receive.

EXCELLENT suggestion. We get quite a few buyers that give their phone number
for one purpose or another - and it would be nice for them to not have to type
it out (instead they could just put in the note "please list my phone number
on the package"). As well, agreed, for certain shipping options it would be
nice to not have to go back and ask the buyer for this information.
However - I can see where some people would only want to include a phone number
part of the time - and there it would seem they'd have to remove/add it when
they wanted to, which is where the notes come in to play...

I think I posted a similar suggestion some time ago, but it's probably purged
now. Essentially, all I think it needs is a checkbox on the checkout page with
a note saying "Provide phone number to seller" or something similar, so long
as the member has provided the phone number in their My Personal Info page.
I personally don't like giving away my phone number unless absolutely necessary.

Agreed. This happens all the time. In fact just this morning I had to ask a buyer
to email me a phone number for shipping to their international PO Box.
If a buyer continues to not make it part of their address, that's totally cool.
But for those that choose to add it, it would make a difference. This shipment
I sent out this morning lost 24 hours because of waiting for a phone number from
the buyer and we're on different sleeping schedules.
Doesn't happen all the time as many people do not use PO Boxes, but it happens
often enough.
The USPS requires a phone number for international orders to a PO Box.
What a nonsense it that
USPS does NOT deliver to international PO Boxes, as the local postal service
delivers in the destination country.
How will USPS now which country's postal service needs a phone number to deliver
to a PO Box and which not?
If a phone number is required for a PO Box outside the USA then ALL postal services
ALL over the world would require the phone number for - say - Germany's PO Boxes.
In fact I shipped to numerous PO Boxes all over the world and Deutsche Post/DHL
NEVER asked for a phone number.
What sense does it make if USPS requires a phone number for a PO Box in Portugal
and other countries' postal services don't require such a number and the postal
service in Portugal does not at all need a phone number to deliver to a Portuguese
PO Box ?
Regarding phone numbers in general, seriously, neither Deutsche Post/DHL nor
any of the big five courier services (DPD, GLS, UPS, HLG, FedEx) ever phoned
me when they wanted to deliver a parcel to me *). Either someone was at home
or they left a card upon delivering.
Ronald
*) I had to register with my phone number on several online purchases for registration
reasons, sometimes my phone number was on the parcels although it was not part
of my delivery address.

The software that we use for shipping requires it...I don't know what in the
world they do with it, as it doesn't show up on the package itself, and we hand
fill out customs forms. LOL

That may be YOUR personal experience, but it is not mine. I have received such
calls numerous times. One of my store locations has an odd address, and I often
receive calls from delivery drivers who are having trouble finding it.
I also regular receive calls when I have large deliveries coming in, to verify
that someone will be there to accept them.
It also appears common in Asian countries that their postal systems make use
of such numbers, as this is where most of my requests to include a cell phone
number on the package come from.
You may think it is nonsense, but it would be a very helpful addition for me
and many others. That is the beauty of it being optional. If you don't want
to use it then you don't have to.

For the longest time, when I would look at past packages I received through the
tracking service it would say signed by "fd".
I would often sit and wonder who this "fd" was that was signing for my packages,
then leaving them on my door. I set gnome traps, no luck. I set up deer blinds
in my side yard so I could watch, for hours at a time, always watching for the
elusive "fd".
Finally, I got my chance. Saw the big brown truck pull up. I held my breath,
puckered my lips and slowed my heartbeat to a mere crawl.
He opens the brown truck door and slowly steps out. My eyes cat like, watching
his every move.
Then I spot it. My package, all brown and cardboardy and full of lego lovin.
This was it, now was the time. Seconds away from the answer. Seconds away from
never having to lay awake at night, drenched in a pool of my own cold sweat with
a tinge of the nights spilled rootbeer.
He carried the package out of the truck, across the street, and up the path to
my front door. Every sense in my body is on high alert, anticipating my encounter
with "fd".
This must be the time, its now or never. He must be hiding somewhere on the path,
ready to strike and sign at the first glimmer of a package, stylus, and calculator
looking signing machine.
But wait, No!
There was no encounter, the package is sitting unmolested upon my porch. How
could this be? Was I tricked? Never!
Anticipating plan B, I whip out my Iphone and head direct to the ups tracking
page. Fingers balmy I manage to type the tracking info in.
How could this be? No wait, let me double check.... How could this be??

Have the heavens aligned to cast the full might of its torturous mind scrambling
pestilence upon my distressed soul? If so then I will rage, nay, relentlessly
fight against such vile tactics. But what could the Gods want with me?
Back to reality I sneakily scamper over the the porch. The package sits unassumingly.
I stand over it, but not before checking back over my shoulder a few more times.
I look down my nose at the package wondering if I am too good for it. I dont
need this crap in my life right now.
I pick it up, shake it a bit for old times sake, the proceed inside through the
door. My mind affluter, I misjudged the placement of my right lower appendage
and managed to scrape it on the metal part of the bottom of the door. Admittedly
I didn't notice until it started to bleed.
Using a kleenex on my foot I couldn't help but think the door got me, or slang
wise "tagged" me.
The front door tagged me.

That's pretty good, reminds me of the time long ago I saw an unusual magnet used
to show status of loads. This magnet was different while the others identified
a load number and were place above a particular trailer number this trailer had
a different magnet all together.
The magnet I was referring to was bright green with two letters big bold and
white, an M followed by a T.
What ever could it mean...
Well of course I know now the trailer was empty...what a card.

Well, it took me a while too. Had to read it 2 or 3 times. At first I didn't
get it but then I pictured someone with a strong southern drawl saying empty.

I merely questioned the USPS nonsense requirement to put phone numbers on shipments
to INTERNATIONAL PO BOXES.
This absolutely makes no sense, please think about:
The main purpose of PO boxes is to get shipments when you're absent due to whatever
reasons. What purpose would/could a phone number then have for USPS???
Did USPS ever told you why they need those numbers?

When printing a shipping label through Endicia they REQUIRE a phone number for
international and APO addresses being shipped to a PO box. If I have the buyers
number I put it in. If not I just put my phone number on the form. Amazingly
it has never been rejected.

that wish to supply it.

Voted Yes. I have needed to give my telephone number several times for international
delivery services, and it just delays the order for the seller to have to ask
me for it.

As long as it is optional, sure, why not. Just keep in mind that many BrickLink
buyers, e.g. in Europe, by from countries other than the one they live in, and
I'm probably not the only one who dislikes the idea of receiving phones call
from people speaking a foreign language. Using writing is so much eaiser.
