About Me Pages: About trainfan (76)
I'm a huge fan of LEGO Trains. Not just any old trains though, for me it HAS to be the 12V series, which were available new for about 10 years from 1981 until 1991, but were never available in the US. Luckily I grew up in the UK and Australia, so it was never too hard to get. The 12V Train system was arguably the most sophisticated toy LEGO ever produced (with the exception of MindStorms which are in a league of their own). Accessories included remote control points, signals, level crossings and decouplers - none of which have been released for the current 9V Train series, which has clearly affected their popularity. In the 12V heyday, 4-6 pages of the annual LEGO catalogue were devoted to Trains. These days, it's one - and most of the stuff is only available off the web.

Oh well, rant over. Suffice to say I have a fairly enormous 12V layout, which I continue to extend whenever I get the urge.
