AFOL only since August 2016.
I "fell in love" with an advertisement for the big Technic #42055 Excavator, seen on Facebook, even if the first set I bought was the #10252 VW Beetle (Creator).
But, in my childhood, late 60s / early 70s, I have played a lot with LEGO trains (blue tracks) or trucks (with the front axle steerable by a 1x2 brick marked Lego, above the cab).
I don't remember my first set... :-)
After my return to the small bricks, at the beginning of 2017, I had about 70 sets, 80% of Technic, the remaining 20% being Creator Expert (vehicles, planes, modulars) and Architecture.
At the end of March 2017, I had 194 sets.
In January 2020, almost 1160 sets, more than 900 different.
In August 2021, 1700 sets, 1280 different, plus also 50 MOCs.
A real addiction !
At the peak of my collection, I had almost reached 2200 sets.
Today, in October 2024, after many sales to reduce stock and facilitate my move, almost 1940 sets, 1430 different, plus 161 MOCs and (above all) Alt Builds.
Retired since early 2023, I have been preparing for 2 years (!) to move this huge collection, to go live with my girlfriend. in her house. It is now done, on October 20, 2024.
And going from a big house, full of Lego, to a very small house in which it is not possible to store a single one, is something very complicated and very disturbing !
From awareness to questioning, the drastic change of direction ends up being imposed and accepted, when you are at the foot of the wall...
Stop buying, gradually put the collection on sale, do not keep a set that has just been built, but dismantle it and sell it quickly...
This will be my relationship with Lego from now on !
I mainly collect Technic, and I have more than 600 now.
Apart from Technic, I was initially interested in almost every subject, but ended up restricting myself mainly to Star Wars, Harry Potter and Speed Champions.
For several years now, I have also been building a lot of MOCs and Alt Builds of other AFOLs. I particularly admire the talent and imagination that it takes to offer such great Alt Builds, from limited inventories !
I try to have systematically box and instructions in good condition, for each of my sets.
