The Model:

Model Main Features:

Two and a half detailed floors of living space, bursting with furniture, hidden secrets, and more. Remove the floors to access the tower room, attic, second floor, and ground floor.

- A rounded tower, wrap-around front porch, multiple gables, and

asymmetrical facade accented with ornamental details, all characteristic of the Victorian

Queen Anne building style.

The Ground Floor features a kitchen, dining room, living room, main staircase, hallway, and a beautiful conservatory.

The First Floor features a large landing graced with a portrait, two bedrooms, and the master bathroom. You can find cool period accents here, such as the crystal doorknobs and stained glass transom windows above the doors.

The front door and door to the balcony above the porch both open, and the attic skylights open on a hinge to allow you to access the attic.

The Attic features a tower room as well as storage space with paint cans, newspaper, holiday decorations, and old clutter. There’s tiles for the roofer to re-tile the roof above the rounded porch. But how did they get a rowboat up there??

Four removable sections for ease of access and play!

Eleven (11) Minifigures, including the two owners, two journalists doing a piece on the house’s features and history, a visiting professor studying the beetles living in the tree, a butler, a chef, two neighborhood children, a visiting neighbor, and a roofer.

This design is very heavily based on another George Franklin Barber design, a beautiful example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture.

- The McCleod House, Hattiesburg, MS (1897) - Now occupied by a law firm, this is one of my favorite Victorian houses I’ve come across.

The limited palette is always a challenge with these entries. In the real life building that was my inspiration, the house is entirely white/light colored, even the window frames. The side porches and elongated rounded porch also were originally part of my design, as I was copying the building exactly. However, that proved to be too many pieces, and the house didn’t look very visually balanced. I changed the side to add another gable, which worked out very well! My favorite parts are the rounded porch, the pediments and balconies on two floors, and the glass conservatory in the back of the house.

One of the most challenging parts of this build, besides the part count, was the fact that the piece Slope 33 3x3 Double Concave)was not in production in this series, and especially not in the color black. The porch roofs if it had been included it would have much smoother and there would be less pieces used, as it was, I had to create plate roofs for it instead which increased the part count.

Another of the challenges was the overall structure and the attempt to make the building as complete as possible. Without factoring in extra parts or interior tiling for overly ornamented buildings as Victorian houses are (to get a normal level of detail), the average fully enclosed, fully furnished Victorian house needs about 5,000-6,000 pieces. I am proud to say I was able to create a fully enclosed, fully furnished building with good internal support and structure, and a host of minifigures, and created it at exactly 4,000 pieces.

If you want a beautiful Victorian house that fits well into any city or town, this is it! It’s easily adaptable to any layout, and can be decorated for holidays! Bring a touch of class into your collection. (And if you have seven double concave pieces, you can smooth out the porch roof design!)
