The Curse of Brimstone Castle.

Long before the ash fell, Brimstone Castle stood as the bustling and thriving jewel of the northern frontier kingdom. Built from stark grey stone and crowned with blood-red spires, the fortress guarded a valley riddled with volatile geothermal rifts. For generations, its rulers maintained a peace with the other kingdoms and the fire beneath the earth.

That peace ended with Lord Valerius .

Obsessed with power, conquest and a desire to rule all the realms, after many years of waging war Valerius grew frustrated as his once vast treasury was depleted and his loyal armies failed to overcome the neighboring kingdoms beyond his borders. Desperate for a weapon capable of crushing his enemies, he turned to the ancient volcanic power beneath the castle.

Valerius with the aid of his court wizard, Malachar Voss , performed a forbidden ritual, tearing open a rift into the magma planes and attempting to bind a spirit of pure volcanic destruction.

The Obsidian Wraith answered.

These towering entities could not be controlled. When Valerius demanded its submission, the Wraiths shattered their containment and unleashed its fury upon Brimstone Castle. Rather than destroying the fortress, it claimed it , corrupting the very foundations of the keep. Geothermal vents erupted through the castle, sending rivers of molten lava through its halls and boiling trenches around its walls.

The castle's garrison suffered an even darker fate. A cloud of volcanic smog swept through the fortress, calcifying the soldiers into blackened stone and stripping away their minds. These Ashen Thralls now patrol the ramparts they once swore to defend, their molten eyes burning with the Wraith's will.

Lord Valerius was spared— only to suffer the fate his ambition deserved. Imprisoned within his highest tower, his mind broken by rage and despair, he is forced to watch his kingdom burn from within while the wraiths feast on his now untamed burning emotions.

Among the prisoners is King Aldric , ruler of a neighboring realm. Captured while attempting to aid the people of Brimstone, Aldric's pure heart protects him from the Wraith's influence. He remains imprisoned, awaiting rescue.

Rumors of the fallen castle have spread across the realms, drawing adventurers, mercenaries and thieves toward its gates. None have returned.

Pip the Pilferer , a wandering thief, has heard tales of the castle's abandoned treasury and sees only an opportunity for easy riches. He sneaks into the ruined fortress unaware that the greatest treasure inside may be his own survival.

But not everyone who enters Brimstone comes seeking glory or riches.

Sir Garrick , a legendary knight of unwavering courage and pure intent, approaches the castle.

For the curse cannot be broken by strength or greed.

Only someone with a truly pure heart can defeat the Obsidian Wraith, rescue the beloved king and reclaim Brimstone Castle.

The Characters -

The castle is designed around a cast of characters who each tell a different part of its story.

The Obsidian Wraiths — The new Masters of Brimstone

A spirit of ancient volcanic fury summoned from the magma planes by Lord Valerius and the wizard Malachar Voss. The Wraith was never a creature that could be controlled. After shattering their magical restraints, it claimed Brimstone Castle as its own, corrupting the fortress and awakening the fire beneath it. Its impossibly long, skeletal form haunts the castle, while its hunger feeds upon greed, anger, pride and despair . Only a truly pure heart can resist its influence.

The Ashen Thralls — The Fallen Garrison

Once the loyal soldiers of Brimstone Castle, these warriors were transformed when the Wraith released a cloud of volcanic smog throughout the fortress. Their bodies hardened into blackened stone and their minds were erased, leaving only the Wraith's will behind. Now they patrol the castle's halls and ramparts as tireless guardians, ready to turn any intruder into another Ashen Thrall.

Lord Valerius — The Fallen Lord

Once a powerful ruler, Valerius sacrificed everything for his dream of conquest. Now he is trapped in his own tower, stripped of his power and forced to watch the consequences of his ambition unfold around him.

Malachar Voss — The Forbidden Wizard

Valerius's court wizard and the architect of the ritual that summoned the Obsidian Wraiths. Malachar believed he could control the volcanic spirit and use its power to reshape the realm. His arrogance helped unleash the curse that consumed the castle.

Elara Voss — The Blacksmith and Cook

Malachar's daughter, Elara, was never interested in her father's pursuit of forbidden magic. Before the curse, she worked within the castle as both its blacksmith and cook , supplying weapons and meals to the garrison. When the Wraith claimed Brimstone, Elara survived the initial catastrophe but was disgusted by her fathers actions and arrogance.

Now her knowledge of the castle's hidden passages and workshops may prove vital to Garrick's quest.

Sir Garrick — The Cursed Castle's Last Hope

A legendary knight known for courage, compassion and an unwavering sense of duty. Garrick has heard the stories of Brimstone Castle but is not interested in its treasure or glory. His only goal is to rescue the imprisoned king and break the Wraith's curse.

King Aldric — The Captive King

A good and honorable ruler who was captured while trying to help the people of Brimstone. The Wraith feeds upon greed, anger and despair, but Aldric's pure heart gives it nothing to consume. He remains imprisoned within the castle, waiting for someone worthy to reach him.

Pip the Pilferer — The Foolish Thief

Pip believes the stories of Brimstone's lost treasury are too good to ignore. Sneaking into the castle in search of gold, he quickly discovers that the fortress is not abandoned—and that the Ashen Thralls and the Wraiths are far more interested in adding him to their ranks than protecting any treasure.

The Build -

Brimstone Castle is designed as a large-scale fantasy fortress packed with architectural detail, playable interiors and storytelling features.

The imposing exterior combines dark grey stonework, towering Gothic architecture and distinctive blood-red tiled roofs , creating a dramatic silhouette of a castle consumed by volcanic magic. Lava erupts from beneath the fortress and flows through the surrounding trenches, while numerous spires, towers and glowing windows bring the cursed castle to life.

But the adventure doesn't stop at the exterior.

The entire castle can be hinged open in multiple sections , and the main tower moved, revealing all the interior rooms, corridors and hidden details concealed within the fortress. This allows easy access while transforming the castle into a large, playable display.

The interior spaces provide spaces for the characters and their stories—from Elara's blacksmith and kitchen areas, the castle's prison tower, the grand dining hall featuring running lava flows beneath the dining table, the throne room, Wizard Malachar's sanctum and Valerius's isolated tower.

The build is also designed with expansion in mind . A second castle can be easily combined with the first to create an enormous, asymmetrical fortress with an even greater footprint and an incredibly imposing display presence.

Whether displayed closed as a towering volcanic fortress or opened to reveal its corrupted interior, Brimstone Castle is designed to be both a dramatic centerpiece and an immersive fantasy adventure.
