Long before HMS Victory.
There was HMS Agamemnon
The agile 64‑gun third rate where Horatio Nelson developed the leadership style, fighting spirit, and officer relationships that later defined his legend.

Why This Ship Matters

Many people know Nelson. Few know the ship where his legend truly began.

Between 1793 and 1796, Nelson forged the officer relationships later known as his Band of Brothers, suffered the eye injury that became part of his legend, and developed the aggressive command style that shaped his victories at St. Vincent (1797), the Nile (1798), Copenhagen (1801), and ultimatively Trafalgar (1805).
