Crossroads Stable

A medieval crossroads inn and stable

===

The knights patrol are keeping the roads of the kingdom safe, but they also need some rest, and so do their horses. Crossroads Stable is the best place to cook a sausage over the fire, refresh with some ale, and then take a rest under the pear tree. And of course a brush and some carrots for the horses.

Perched at the meeting point of four roads, this medieval inn and stable has welcomed weary travellers for generations. Its straw-thatched roof glows warm in the afternoon sun, and the twin signs — a giant horseshoe and an overflowing tankard — can be spotted from half a league away. You'll know you've arrived.

Inside, the big fireplace is doing what it does best: roasting sausages while the bartender keeps the ale flowing. Outside, the stone fountain burbles quietly beneath the pear tree — where one knight has fallen asleep mid-sausage, and another has just found him.

But not everyone here is who they seem. In the back room, the innkeeper is making a rather unusual purchase — a golden statue, offered by a cloaked figure who has clearly not acquired it through entirely honest means. It will fit perfectly in the hidden compartment behind the barrels. It always does.

At the end of a long day and a longer night, the bartender climbs the narrow stair to the small room tucked under the roof — barely big enough for a bed and a candle, but it's home.
