Living in Cardiff, I walk past this striking terracotta Pierhead landmark every day. As an architectural designer, I wanted to capture this iconic landmark as a sophisticated, brick-built display piece for the BrickLink Designer Program.

Achieving true-to-life proportions was my highest priority throughout the design process. I continually cross-referenced the digital model with the physical building. It was essential that the imposing height of the central tower, the width of the grand arched entrance, and the sweeping pitch of the flanking roofs matched the actual structure as closely as possible. The true challenge is to maintain this exacting scale while ensuring the final model remained a stable, logical, and highly detailed build.

The core of this project relies on a meticulous reinterpretation of architectural details. Translating ornate stonework, steep turrets, and the intricate clock tower into the medium of building bricks required an exhaustive exploration of the available parts inventory. Every element was carefully selected to ensure the textures, colors, and geometric complexities of the real facade were accurately represented.

To elevate the final display value, rather than a standard standalone building, I designed this model to look like a three-dimensional architectural drawing. By embedding the relief facade within a clean, dark frame against a subtle gridded white backdrop, the model transcends a standard standalone build to become as sophisticated as a piece of curated wall art.
