Rogues’ Alley

Keep a close eye on your coin purse if you’re going to visit Rogues’ Alley! Nestled back in the seedy side of town, this district is covertly run by the local chapter of the Thieves Guild and features a number of businesses that have sprung up to support their activities. Interested in a tour?

Start your visit by pawning your hot merchandise at Bits and Oddments, and maybe pick up a nice diamond at a great discount - totally not stolen or anything. Then swing by Serpent’s Kiss for a potion - or maybe a poison? Peruse the fine weaponry at Knave’s Blades - all come by honestly, of course - and then head up to Knott’s for all the rope you could need for scaling walls or descending into tombs, whatever your fancy. Don’t worry about the crumbling Watchtower - the Serpent Knights have been paid off. I would, however, avoid the rat-infested Hovel, a disgusting, shabby place where the most nefarious deals take place.

When you’re done exploring, head on over to the Dead Drop Inn, as long as you’re not too picky on the quality of ale or the comfiness of the beds. While you’re there, stop in the Guild’s safe room, where you can check for jobs and grab supplies or stash your valuables. If you have any pressing messages to send, head across the hall to the Guildmaster’s Chambers, above which he keeps carrier pigeons at the ready at all hours. While you’re there, he might just ‘let’ you contribute all the gold in your possession to his secret stash!

The Rogues’ Alley is a gritty, less-polished addition to any medieval, castle, fantasy, pirate or even magic (think HP) display. Most of the buildings can be separated and set up in a variety of ways for tons of display options - or even used as a book nook! This set fills a missing gap in the Lego medieval world, and serves as an excellent DnD campaign location. Hope you enjoy!

Set Features:

The Dead Drop Inn, with a common room with plenty of seating and a fireplace, perfect for gatherings of ne’er-do-wells of all stripes. Upstairs is an inn room with bunk beds and a Thieves Guild safe room where operatives can check for listed jobs, gather needed tools and gear, or stash items they’ve stolen. A small attic rests atop the 2nd story for storage or hiding when the law comes around.
Bits and Oddments Pawn Shop shares the other side of the inn. Downstairs is the pawn broker, who doubles as inn-keeper, and who sells all manner of random objects. His counters can be shifted to reveal stolen goods or thieves’ tools! Climb the ladder to access the Inn’s 2nd story, where you’ll find the Guildmaster’s Chamber. His desk is filled with maps and papers, and his comfy canopy bed hides his secret stash of gold! Above, there’s a small dovecote in the attic where carrier birds are kept at the ready to fly through the broken window with messages.
The Serpent’s Kiss is a potion shop specializing in poisons, especially paralytics. Bottles and phials line the walls of the shop itself, while mushrooms grow in the dark space beneath the trapdoor. The Serpent Knights’ alchemist who runs it keeps her workshop directly upstairs, where you’ll find her potion-making set-up and plenty of rare ingredients. Her cozy boudoir adjoins this room.
Knave’s Blades rests directly below the boudoir. Here, the shopkeeper sells all manner of bladed weapons - swords, axes, daggers, you name it.
The Stable abuts the blade shop, where travelers may keep their horses.
The Hovel sits on the other side of the stable. It’s merely a tiny, cramped room with a door falling off the hinges, and the smell of the stable keeps anyone from living there. That makes it perfect for a dead drop location, or as a spot to host clandestine meetings.
Above the stables and hovel sits the Ropery, one half of which has plenty of ropes on display for the many needs a medieval community has for rope, and the other half of which contains the ropery workshop, including a vertical ‘rope walk’ where the rope is actually crafted.
The broken-down Watchtower is a crumbling bastion of the Serpent Knights, and it has seen better days. Downstairs, you’ll find a storeroom with weapons and a bench for the guards, and upstairs you’ll find access to the building next door or the crenelated roof from which the knights can keep an eye on the activities of the town.
The Stairwell does not separate, but can be attached to several different buildings for 2nd story access. It features a dilapidated farm stand selling carrots, as well as a straw bed where the local ruffians often crash after a night of tomfoolery.
The buildings are designed as three complete structures, which can be separated and rearranged for myriad display options.
Ropes and a clothesline may be attached, depending on the display, to create the alley look and allow rogues to zip-line from one building to another. The alley look can also be used to form a book nook, albeit a slightly wider one than Lego’s current offerings.
11 Minifigures: Two Serpent Knights, two Ruffians, two Rogues, the Pawnbroker, the Alchemist, the Bladesmith, the Guildmaster and a Wandering Wizard.
