Welcome everyone to The Crave Food Market, a new culinary destination to discover and enjoy in your city of Lego.

Here, tourists and local residents come together in a unique setting where they can sample everything from fine pastries and high-quality Italian gelatos to fresh juices, as well as kebabs, oysters and other seafood, and the delicious spit-roasted or glazed chicken from the market’s central stall.

On the upper level is located the Brickbar where visitors can share a cup of coffee, tea, or matcha, or opt for other types of fresh drinks and sodas while taking in the city views from its beautiful terrace with a glass floor.

At the back of the old market are the toilets, the stairs leading to the first floor, and a beautiful pine tree that complements and adds character to the whole scene.

Inspiration

During my many trips to cities across Europe and the United States, I’ve always been fascinated by their beautiful and often charming street food markets. For example, I’m a huge fan of London’s Borough Market, which I’ve visited dozens of times over the past 20 years. I also have fond memories of the Torvehallerne Market in Copenhagen. In Madrid, where I live, there’s the San Miguel Market, which I’ve referenced in various parts of this project.

Therefore, this project—in line with other projects I’ve developed on BrickLink, such as Brick Cross or The Art Factory—is not a replica or scaled-down version of any of these markets, but rather a new creation that brings together fragments of my memories from various street food markets.

On the Design and Construction

For this project, I set out to experiment with an iron-and-glass architecture that complements and expands an old market building. To put it another way, in front of this old building was the market square where makeshift street stalls would set up on a specific day of the week. Now, with this iron-and-glass structure, the market is a permanent fixture and open every day.

The upper terrace, with its glass floor that allows natural light to filter down to the lower level, is perhaps the most innovative and eye-catching part of the entire set.

Taking advantage of the space under the floor, I’ve created a mechanism that allows you to control movements in three different areas of the market using a single crank.

As you can see in the video below, once the design was finished, I physically built the set for two reasons: to test it and because I wanted to have it right now in my city 😊!

I hope you like the set, and if you think it’s a good idea for a final product, don’t forget to cast your vote—you can help make it a reality.
