Material used

CA = Cellulose Acetate (1949 - aprox. 1963)

These bricks are typically recognised by "warping";

ABS = Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (1964 and onwards)

These bricks were introduced to solve the warping issue.

Stud logo used

The old logo (Left) was used till 1963 the new logo (Right) from 1963 onwards. Around 1963 also bricks without a logo or with a mix of both logo's were used;

Inner or bottom markings;

pat pend marked (1958 -aprox. 1974)

Bricks are marked with the text "Pat. Pend." and were used during the time that the patent on Lego was still pending.

pat pend obscured (1974 - 1979)

Bricks have the "Pat. Pend." masked or obscured and were used in the transition period from a pending patent to when Lego obtained the patent;

void (1979 -1984)

Bricks neither have the "Pat. Pend." marking, the "Pat. Pend." obscured or the actual Part ID mentioned on them. These bricks may have some markings like mold numbers on them
